i have been looking online and hearing so things from friends about at home powder coating kits.
i was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with these and what were the results.
do you guys think that it could be worth they investment.
i would like to make some of my engine bay nice and shinny.
oh and if trochoid sees this i would like to know what kind of system you are using and how much did it cost you?

I have a cheap gun that I bought on eBay, seems to work alright. The gun is only the first piece that you'll end up buying. You'll find that you'll need a dedicated oven, can't use the one in the kitchen, a sandblast cabinet, then a bigger compressor, solvent parts washer, then you will be buying different powders to play with, a DA, a diegrinder, sandpaper, carbide burs, and sanding rolls to smooth out parts for a nicer/smoother finish.
It can be an expensive investment if you're only doing pieces for yourself. There are some powdercoating forums, you might want to read up in them before you decide on what you need.
It take a bit of practice to get a good coating and when you bugger one up, it needs to be stripped chemically, sandblasting takes forever.

The intake and carb I finished today, it's going out to a member. The darker pulleys are practice using a dark base under candy top coats, the lighter ones are a test mixing different powders. The top left pulley is the iridecent black powder I used on Vipernicuis' wheels. It doesn't photgraph well, looks quite different in the sunlight.
