Possible fuel pump problems???
I have a new engine and have broken it in and am now trying to see how fast I can get her up to speed. The only problem is that I get into first all the way up to 6.5K then shift to 2nd and still floor it until I get to 6.5K again then shift to third and before I can shift again the car starts to act as if it is not getting enough fuel or something. I then let off the pedal for a few seconds and floor it again and she's fine again. I have changed the fuel filter with a factory one and have new rubber lines around the pump. I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem or may know whats going on?

I agree with oy about the fuel pump. This may be a good time to get a new aftermarket fuel pump and regulator.
I can't recomend one but I'm sure that if you search under aftermarket fuel pump in the 1st gen section somebody has recomended some.

Here's what's happening. Your fuel pump is unable to supply enough fuel for long periods of WOT and you're sucking the float bowls dry. That's why it picks up again after letting off the throttle for a few seconds. The only solution is to get a proper aftermarket fuel pump like a Carter or Holley. Many including myself prefer the Carter. Oh yeah, you'll also need a pressure regulator and gauge. Hope this helps.

I'm not sure if even a NEW stock pump will supply enough fuel if you plan on driving it hard. Fuel delivery is not the sort of thing you wanna mess with. Do you really wanna risk blowing that new motor due to a bad lean-out?

Don't worry about the trust worthiness of the carter pump, they have spent many millions to make sure that the pumps work well for a long period plus you will get better performance with the pump.
