Ported GSL-SE Needs Something More....

So here's where I'm at. I have an '84 GSL-SE with a mild street port, the engine has about 20-30k on it (documented, just haven't checked in a while). Almost full suspension work: polyurethane bushings all around, racingbeat springs, tokiko blue shocks/struts; intake and full 2.5" racing beat exhaust (no cat) back to my stock looking muffler. It has some other minor stuff as well, but the above is what I believe should be relevant (if not feel free to ask me).

I'm going to be replacing the radiator (it leaks a bit) and replacing the breaks and rotors all around (they need it). After I get these necessary things taken care of I'm gonna start looking seriously at getting the car to have a bit more go.

The two ways that come to mind are NOS and a Turbo setup. Honestly I need to look and research on both, but wanted to see if anyone would be willing to get me started in the right direction, and point out any pitfalls I might want to beware of with either given my current setup.

I don't need the fastest car, I just want a little more. I'm looking for the most "economical" bang for the buck route (maybe a TII turbo setup?). Anyway, any ideas are appreciated.

Turbo is the way to go... but is going to cost you...
If you say you dont need the "fastest car" then Why dont you go all motor... improve your performace with bolt ons... there are plenty of ideas in the forums...
Change the fan to an electric fan, your engine will perform better, get better ignition and more current, you say you have a full rb so improve airflow, you have an SE so you can upgrade your injectors... etc..

You can do a few things here:

1. All motor with a little NOS: Ultimately you can probably do this for about 2k or less. You have a good start already so that is helping you. NOS is fairly cheap and if used correctly on a good engine can give good results without "alot" of wear. You can also look into a stand alone ECU. This will be a little pricey depending on which brand; some are cheaper then others. With this you can ditch the Air Flow Meter and also tune for power. You could very easily see up to 30hp up top gain with a stand alone ECU. On the intake side you could also go with a high flow carb setup. This too will gain more power when tuned correctly. This would be cheaper then EFI but you will also sacrifice gas mileage and drivability that often comes with carbs. Electric fan, MSD/DFIS, cleaned/blueprinted injectors and other important tuneup area's are also very important to making good, smooth power.

2. Forced Induction: There are MANY options here. Considering your newer engine I am guessing that if you put boost to a motor it would be your current setup. You have an NA engine so you are limited to the amount of boost due detonation issues. There are several routes you can go with a turbo or supercharger. Here are a few.

Turbo setup on the SE intake
Blow through Turbo Weber setup.............www.rotaryshack.com

Full TII swap with aftermarket components (ecu, turbo)

The best thing to do is alot of research. There are many threads on this site that explain or have links to sites that explain every one of these routes. When making the decision to go turbo, knowledge is your absolute best friend. Good luck and think long and hard. You will save time and money by going the right direction the first time....oh yeah, and power is very addictive.

You know a series 4 intake bolts right up to your SE sixport had a much larger throttle body and better flow to compliment your street port and....this is the best part.....its dirt cheap to do cause chances are you probably know where a second gen is with a blown motor so you can get the parts you need for cheap! Damn, I knew I shoulda made a thread on how to do the swap....oh well if you decide to go that way PM me and I can walk you through it.
