pop up headlights

i have a 85 se, took for a quick drive sunday, turned the lights on, they flipped up ok but will not lower. the positive cable on the battery was loose, when i shut it down. tightned it restarted and lights wont go down, tried both the light switch and the dash pod switch. did not have time to start digging around, was running late for mom's dinner, any ideas for me to start on for saturday?

thanks

I was having the same problem with mine once, started after I installed the aftermarket stereo. Couldnt figure it out, then one day I had to remove the ac/radio surround and found that my wire harness on the back of the switch had come unplugged. If I lowered the lights manually and turned them on, they would pop up, but wouldnt go back down when I turned the lights off. reconnected my harness and everything works good as new.

Mine do the same thing but just on the passenger side. And I know it's a broken wire in the wire harness. Check the harnesses for corrosion, heat does damage to them and makes them brittle, as well as water splashing up under the car when it's raining causes them to mess up. That would be my first guess, if that doesn't work I believe there's a ground wire for each headlight motor mine broke off before and that was causing them to not do anything at all, You can always crank them down by hand by removing the rubber cover and spinning the wheel on the motor (make sure the lights are in the down postion on the switch or they'll launch themselves back up and spin the wheel. I almost got my finger caught before!) Also the mechanical arms on the motor have a tendancy to pop off on mine sometimes check and see if they are still attached. If not put the lights in the down position and take something thin and strong and lift the headlights by hand then re-insert the pin on the arm to the other arm. Hope that helps, I forgot to mention that my headlight motors are missing the clips that attach the two arms together so yours might still have them but check anyways. Those were the easy solutions, if none of those work it might be an electrical problem. Let me know!
