Polished Nikki’s??

Had some issues with idle and full throttle so I’m rebuilding the spare carb... but in the middle of getting it clean I started looking for polished carb pics and couldn’t find anything! Has anyone done it? Or have you seen any? I think it would look pretty sharp, especially with a cleaned up engine bay... what are you thoughts??

Now your steel parts will rust quickly.

DivinDriver may be the only one that comes to mind, if it cleans up the bay, hes done it!

Considering how much of the carb is visible under the air cleaner, I would lean just more towards a nice OEM look, possible re yellow zinc the steel hardware.

Zinc the steel or hit it with wd40 to stop the flash rust.

I was afraid of that. Good thing it doesn't rain in Arizona... I wish I took pictures of this carb before I started. Before and after pics always get the best of me. But let me tell you, It was bad! my intentions were to clean it up with some carb cleaner and slap it back together but nooooo. There was probably 1/2" of black fuzz all around the outside and the float bowls were so full of varnish that you couldn't see the bottom!

How does one go about zinc coating the steel? Is that something a shop would have to do?

Black epoxy paint is what I use because it resists rust and can look pretty sharp, but I prefer the stock plated look whenever possible.

I've replated a number of my Nikki parts with success. Takes time, but the end result is (in my opinion) worth it. If you don't feel like plating I would do as Jeff suggested and paint the steel parts. However, I've also had good results with lacquer in the past on some things like the dizzy vacuum pots and such.

For example sake, here's my main Nikki (re-plated) and dizzy (the vac pots and mounting plate have been lacquered).

So that matte yellow is the zinc I stripped and brushed off? Looks sharp.... I found a high speed, show quality polisher that does some crazy work. This week I will take it over there and get a quote......
