man, piece of cake eh? everythings going great, you get the strut out, compress it, and then u find u'rself with this nut u cant remove. Well, I got a huge pair of channel locks, locked them up high right above the top of the strut boot, and turned the nut while stepping on the channels locks, and they actually held the rod from spinning good luck!!

Ur kidding right?

Vise grip pliers will work too, but a 1/2" drive air impact wrench works the best. Also, that nut is the first thing I take loose, then I jack the car up, that's my spring compressor.

BIG pliers with a selectable opening range. You open them up and slide the thing into the appropriate channel to determine how big of a range you want. Hope that helps

I don't know, old Les is getting kind of feeble, but if you think he can handle it...

I just went to a local auto parts store.
They hit it with an impact wrench, free of charge. Most places will do that, especially if they think you will buy something.

has anyone tried somthing like this ? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2418914050

I know they are cheap and no where near as good as an air driven one ... but they are cheap and if they would do this sort of thing once in while I might buy one

If i were you I would have a shop do that part of your project, removing springs from a macphearson strut is very dangerous. When my boss took mine apart he used a special machine just for macphearson's and when it compressed the spring it held enough pressure on the top plate thing that the strut didn't turn and the nut was just impacted off.

Air tools are key. I'm so used to air tools at work that when I work on my cars at home, I feel like I went back in time....

yea air tools are godly. I'm so lucky to have an air compressor, I have no idea what I would do without it. Now all I need is some more air tools...
