Many places. While it's running you can spray some carb cleaner around like the base of the carb, where the intake manifold meets the carb. Also where the manifold meets the block. Also you might check any lines you have capped for a split cap. A split cap eluded me for days trying to fix a similar problem on my FB.

Next, check to make sure your throttle and choke cables haven't come out of their brackets.

for a few months after i bought my 7 it idled around a thousand rpms and then a while back it started going up, and up, and up due to a vacum leak (hissing sound), so that basically gave me the excuse i needed to dismantle everything, lol. before i did that i knew relatively little about rotaries. ive spent enough money fixing things to be able to have gone out and bought a pretty good used car but the education ive gained by doing this is pretty hard to put a price on.
my advice: remove all the crap you see when you open your hood (if you dont have to pass emmissions) and youll find a nice little engine in there somewhere; if you need to pass emmissions get yourself a can of carb cleaner and start squirting it around in there until you hear a change in how the motor is running. if that dosent work check and see if the idle speed screw is set wrong, its down below the accelerator pump and the linkages and stuff
is the engine at its operating temp while its running at 3000rpm or not? is your choke **** out or in while its doing this?
