the plastic tray under the carb.

the plastic tray under the carb is that part necessary? I need to replace the intake manifold gasket/o rings and am wondering if that part can come off in the engine clean up process. I read something here about a "phenolic spacer" spacer but am not sure if that is exactly the same part. thanks n.

yes, it's the phenolic spacer and it's a good thing to have. it provides the vaccum sources for your lines and keeps heat away from the carb.

so as this thing starts to crack with age, your SOL?

is the mazdatrix part 13-221D-0823 Carb base gasket, as they describe, "This part number is a "normal" looking gasket, that is actually from early RX2/3. The RX7 "base gasket" is that entire black plastic unit with all the metal tubes in it. These are available, but cost something around $130 !!!"

a reliable replacement for this? and then are we looking at capping off the vacuum tubes? if you or anyone knows I greatly appreaciate it. N

As long as its not cracked inside where the carburator sits itll be fine. I find it much easier to get at stuff just by breaking the little tray part off, and so far Ive had no problems.
