Pitman arm removal.

Hello fellas,

I have a question on the pitman arm... have you guys removed it? I tried to remove it from the steering box, I have the box out of the car already and I tried to use air tools to 'knock' it loose and it didn't work. Is there a way to remove the pitman arm? The new steering box that I got has a bad pitman arm so I want to get a new arm to replace it.

Have you thought of using a pitman arm puller?

Or you can simply cut the bad one out...

Maybe I should try that... with something much stronger. The 2 of them that I used... snapped off and almost hit me in the eye.

Heat it with a torch and then use the air hammer to knock it loose. That almost always works for me. If that doesn't work you will have to cut it. Just be careful you don't cut into the steering gear shaft.

The pitman arm puller I rented from Autozone, like 25 bucks or so. There is a thread on here with a how-to that I used. It's actually fairly simple to do.
