Ok ok I rented the tool. Mine wasnt free what a rip!!! I have the little puller was a supposed to get the slide hammer with it? Mine was already grinded down also. I have tried everything to get that little piece of **** out. Ive bleed Ive cused! Still nothing! Tell me what im missing!

you have to put that all the way in and make sure the puller is graping the bearing firmly
and you will need the slide hammer to do the work
for the money you paid, you should be refund 100% once you return the tool

Have you figured a way to get it back in there yet? I Dont see anything about it in the repair manual. I trying to figure out how the seal goes?

yes i got all the part in already
but it spend me 4 hours just to align the engine and transmission
still didn't get that in yet
something ******* wrong
for the bearing i had bought a tool call bushing driver and it only took me 5 seconds to install both the seal and bearing
hope you will get that done soon

Perhaps my advice is not the best to give, since mine still isn't shifting right, but...
I had the same problem: When I pulled the tranny back from the engine, all the little needle rollers fell all over the place, and the inner race came out with the input shaft. I could not get a puller to attach to the outer race to save my life -- there just wasn't enough material there to get a bite. I tried chisels, punch awls, cursing, and pliers, but it didn't budge. I wound up using a dremel to get the race out. I bought an aluminum oxide grinder bit that was relatively small (say, about a third of the diameter of the pilot hole), and I went around the inside grinding out the bits of bearing. Unfortunately, the race was more-or-less "welded" to the E-shaft, so I wasn't able to get a good gauge as to when I had ground enough. As a result, I think there is still some of the old race in there which is constricting the pilot bearing, since I still have a hard time getting it into first when the motor's running. I'm going to go back in over the winter, though, and measure the ID of the E-shaft with a caliper, find or make a metal rod that matches that ID, and then check to make sure that the shaft is the same all the way back. I suspect when I pull out my current pilot bearing, I'll find one of the sides in the back to be kind of crushed or deformed. I would suggest for you to make that check while you're grinding, before you put your new pilot bearing in. It'll save you some headache.
And when you're grinding, don't hang out in any one place too long -- keep the bit moving so you don't put any unwanted grooves in the shaft.
As far as getting the bearing in, I found that putting the new one in dry ice for a half hour helped a lot. I'd line it up one the E-shaft, give it a little tap with the handle from a screwdriver just to get it set, then I put a bearing driver on it and tapped it in the rest of the way. It takes a little more than a gentle tap, but it'll go in. Apparently, even if you haven't ground out all of the old bearing.

I have the "special" mazda tool, I bought it almost 18 years ago, its a combination clutch center/pilot bearing insert tool.
the one end is the exact ID of the inside of the pilot bearing, with a raised ridge thats the exact ID of the hole itself. The ridge push on the shell of the pilot bearing, while the shaft portion of it keeps the pilot bearing straight and the other end can be smacked with a mallet without mashing your fingers (like when you use a socket)
I bought it at the same time as my flywheel socket, and it is a godsend.

damn today i try to work on my second engine
the same pilot bearing for same year engine won't come out by using the same method
i was like wtf
i compared the two and the one i work on today is like 2mm deeper so the puller will not grab
after several attemp i think i have to cut that bearing to get it out since it's damaged so bad
no luck

Who invented these things never intended on have to replace them I guess! I had to end up buying my tool because I had to weld to it because I need that strong of a grab!
So what about the petro jelly will that do! It felt great to drive my mazda again after one long month of seeing her sit!

I don't know how that petro jelly will work: never tried it for THAT! Usually I put in silicon grease, believing that it will resist water well, but lube is NOT a strong point with this application, so it may be that WHATEVER one puts in will soon disappear and then the bearing will run dry for several years. They are ALWAYS dry when you replace them.
