Why yes they did. I found a way around this though. ALl you do is lossen up the nut behind the hood release and it should turn the a vertical position. As you can see in the pics.

Hope this helps ya!

Im so used to it now, that on my project 7 it feels wierd.

I have thought about making a box like that and doing something along those lines, and i liek how the carpet covers the subs cause in our cars we dont got much options for hiding them, does the carpet rattle adn make any anoyinh noises?

someone put one under the storage bins and the quality wasnt very good. For good sound i beleive if the subs are pointed at the hatch glass it helps out, Is this true?

is it fairly simple to relocate the battery to the rear of the car, what kind of cables do you need etc? ive got 2x 400w 10" subs and 2 6x9" for the front, a 2x400w amp and a 2x100w amp. i can vouch for the extra weight in the back being good, my car is very prone to wheel spin coz theres just no weight on the back wheels, i put a cement bag in the back as an experiment and it made my launch substantially better. thanks

It would sound like a$$... Needs to me in a sealed non flexible box so the sound waves have something bounce off of and moe the speaker. A tuned port box would be even better but require almost twice as much room. I was thinking of 2 6" subs in each bin with sealed boxes behind the lid.... Like so...

This would allow you to still lift up the lid and maybe store a pack of gum or something of equal size and value in there.

It won't sound as good as in the rear. Its because the way sound reflects/disperses.
You can experiment with a house speaker, placed in the center of a wall, or in a corner.
Back in the day when MTX first came out with those cheap carpeted sub boxes, I bought a pair and put them in different locations in my 7. Behind the seats firing forward you would feel it of course, but sound wise the bass wasn't as impressive as in the back firing up at the hatch. They were to tall to have in the rear firing foward, but that is also a good place if theyr'e small enough. Some one on here built enclosures that fit way in the back, just in front of the tail lights, thats what Id like to do .

Sit back son! Your full of unexperienced ****! I did it with 2 12" Alpine type Z subs and it hit hard. They where in sealed boxes (.65cuft) a side and hit 140db with 1 600 wt JBL amp. The pics of the install are further up on the page. You will have to alot of fiberglass work to make this happen, but it did not take up much space (the entire storage bin area)
Please, if you have never done it - don't talk about it as if you know!
Rotofire on this site bought the box. PM him and ask him if it hits!

WTF is your problem? I never said it wouldn't... I thought he was talking about screwing a speaker down to the lid and useing the carpeted storage bins as the box. So back off with your bad self... I'm sure your stereo sounds just fine.

Read what he said "in the storage bins" not on the storage bins. Everyone else understood him.

I have put a Sub in my stoarge bin. It sounds excellent... and I am a sound engineer so I am very picky. Although I do not listen to my sub with it up and higher than everything else, I like a good mixture where I can hear the bass just as loud and clear as everything else. It is not a booming machine, but it can get too loud for me and it does sound great... I was going to throw a couple of pictures up here but this thing is taking way too long and I need to go to church. I might do it when I get back if you are interested.

Ok so I have been trying for like 40 minutes trying to make this picture still visible and also small enough to attach. Anyway, here's a real crappy picture of what I am talking about. I'll take a better smaller picture of it tomorrow and put it up. Anyway, the point is that it's possible, and it sounds great!

you claim to be a sound engineer and you did that... wow

did you consider the energy loss from the plastic vibration? let alone the flexible "enclosure"

yea I considered it... I actually didn't use the flexible enclosure. I just attatched the sub to the bin door, dynamatted it, and screwed it on. The rest of the inside is carpeted very well and it makes no resonance. I did take out what I think was the rear speaker amps and everything else that was loose in there. The Dynamat fixes the resonance between the door and the frame of the bin.

Also, I know what I am in which I don't need to convince of anybody. I am a sound engineer for musicals, dramas, and live concerts. Each I have won awards for. I am not, however, I sound engineer for car stereos. Meaning, I have never installed a top of the line system that is good for a show. I just know how to make something sound good with what I have. Using photoshop, or any other photo manipulation program has nothing to do with making something sound good. The problem was that when uploading a gif, jpeg, or bmp the "session" would time out after about 5 minutes. I admit I don't know what I'm doing except trying to save it as a smaller or different file. I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, just explaining myself in the chance somebody might be able to help. Anyway... I'm going to work now.

Alrighty, so I did some reading and figured out how to use Photoshop. Here are a couple more pics... My original plan was to make a nice sealed box but there were a few problems I ran into. For one, the box has to be a certain size that is relative to the sub in order to produce the best sound otherwise the box idea is benign. I did have enough square feet in the bin area, but there was no way to fit a box into it without building it from underneath (and I didn't want to do that). Also, due to the size of the car, it is not necessary to have a sealed box (or ported box) in order to produce enough sound.

So, what I did was make sure there was nothing loose in the bin area, and also that there was padding (something to absorb the sound rather than the medal). All I did then was mount my amp, and equalize it through the system so it sounds good. It's great! It was cheap, sounds good, and still looks close to stock. Let me know if you have questions or would like more explanation pics (although I don't want this forum to go too off topic).

Got my new speakers in!

I went with the Rockford fosgate T152C and T162C 5.5 inch and 6.5 inch. With some gentle massageing from a 3 pound sledge they fit great.. Best part is all the factory panels fit back over them with no problems. Everything looks factory. These speakers are 75 RMS and 150 peak. I currently have 55 watts coming from my head unit. They sound really good I would reccomend them to all. Great highs and mids. Just need a small sub now and I'll be set.
