Pics of my 13bt 1st gen
Ive finally got the engine in my car and took some pics. I made a small website to put them on. http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/mcgyver84/RX-7.html
Now im waiting on my haltech to come and have my intercooler made. Ive got the oil cooler in and a plate made to hold my coils in but cant take any more pics until my camera is fixed. Hope you all like it.

Those washers are to lower the tranny down an inch to make the stock tranny mount fit. with out them the tranny sticks up so high that it hits the trans tunnel I was going to use aluminum spacers that were 1 inch thick but I could not find any wide enough. The washers I used are some kind of tempered steel and they are 1/4 inch thick each a cant remember the exact name of them. There is a steel sleeve in the middle of them around the bolt to keep them from shifting around.
Right now im working on geting all of the wiring cleaned up and just fininshed relocating the battery to the trunk to clear my intercooler piping. Hope to have more pics up soon.

I think ive got the drive shaft thing figured out. You cant use the N/A tranny drive shaft with the turbo tranny because the Turbo tranny has one 23splines on the yoke and the N/A has 22. I was going to get a TII drive shaft from the junk yard and have a drive shaft shop put the 2 together but TIIs rarely show up at the junkyard and the 84 and up drive shafts dont have replacable u joints which is somthing I want because I know its going to take a lot of abuse. I checked mazdatrix website and they sell new drive shafts with replaceable u joints for $250. My N/A tranny is the same length as my TII one so I called Mazdatrix and asked them if they could sell me a 84-85 drive shaft with a turbo yoke on the end because they can just change it out with the replaceable u Joints. The guy on the phone said sure and with no extra cost. So now all I have to do is double check the length of the shaft to make sure they are the same and if they are thats what im going to do.

For cleaning the aluminum I used a scowering pad,a stainless steel wire brush, carwash soap and a lot of scrubbing. Also some of the aluminum is polished I had to borrow a tool from a friend of mine to take off the casting before I polished it and that takes a long time. If I were to do it again I would not polish anything and just have the parts sandblasted because it takes forever to clean.

I talked to a friend of mine at Hudson Machine Shop and he told me $150 if I gave him the spline and my old driveshaft. Said I can make whatever thickness you want... So that now brings the question anyone got a old T2 driveshaft, that I can rob the front spline outta?

Old [Sch|F]ool
Supposedly the Ford Courier's are the same spline.
Some Ford Pickups used the T2-style Mazda transmission... I know my '93 Ford Motorsport catalog has a performance clutch listed for the 2.3l Ranger with the same exact splines as a T2 input shaft, so maybe there are some 2.3l Rangers or straight six F-150s (early 90's) that have the proper front driveshaft yoke.

Very nice setup and clean install job. Good pics too.
I've got a question. What are you doing, if anything, with the rear-end? What options are there for something stronger? I'm asking because when I get a house with a garage my 83 is probably going to go through this transformation. I'm wondering how the -se rear end I have in it will hold up.

I will be putting the SE rear end and front suspension on my car ive got every thing to make the swap but ive been to busy working in the engine bay to do it. Ill let you know how the rear holds up to the abuse of the turbo if it breaks ill probally put a FORD 9in in it.
Peejay Ive been looking at the junk yard for a b2400 mazda pickup to rob the drive shaft out of but still have not found one. Thanks for the info on the Ford courior drive shaft ill look for one of those but im still tempted to buy the new one just cuss its new.
Oh and I recently picked up some sweet looking rims at the junk yard. They were 120.00 for all four and look almost like panasports except there 14x6 and made by enkie (spelling?). They fit perfectly on the GSL-SE, off set and everything. Ill put some pics of the rims up as soon as my camera is back.
