performance coils
i was looking through a victoria british mag today an something caught my eye. crane sells hi performance coils, saying that it giver higher spark which gives horsepower and reduces flooding. would it be a good move to purchase these, is the spark too high, and would it really reduce flooding. i have a gsl-se i w ould be putting these in. it doesn't flood often, but when it does, you'll see me in a parking lot pulling the plugs out and cleaning them and relieving fuel pressure. so, would this benifit me to install these or would they hurt the engine?

Hey man, check it out. I have DLIDFIS and I had a Crane PS92 coil (almost new) laying around that I figured would be great for the trailing so I installed it and all the sudden I had a crappy little misfire and less power throughout the rev range. I thought I did something wrong, maybe there was no trailing spark right? wrong, I pulled the coil wire off the dist. and there was spark alright, a decent purple one... I put back the MSD one I had in before and it idled normal again and power was back. I think the resistance is wrong for our poor little ignitors.

Yes MazdaveRX713B, I am using 3 MSD blaster coils and the spark is excellent.
Side note: the blaster II coils have a lame tower that is basically glued onto a regular blaster I coil. The terminal at the end of the coil is the same as the end of a spark plug instead of being female style like our stock diamond coils. To anyone planning on upgrading to the MSD units I suggest you skip the "updated" ones with the tower extention. Just get the Blaster I and you can use stock type wires.
hornbm, did you find the Blaster II's to be a pain? I ended up ripping off the extra towers.

My brother had his that way for 4 years and no problem.....maybe it happened to other people but think about this, they leak usually due to vibration. The target audience is the V8 crowd for this particular style of coil, and on a small block chevy for example, the coil mounts laying flat just like ours do, but its mounted to the intake manifold of the engine = maximun vibration! In my opinion the environment is very different in a 7 and they seem to survive much better.
