Parking brake cable part number?

I'm looking for a parking brake cable for my '79.

I went to Canadian Tire and their computer said there were left and a right cables but they didn't even have a price let alone stock.

Another place asked "left or right". They orded the part in (for something like $50 with shipping).

I took the rear wheel apart and the cable I bought doesn't fit. It looks like my car has a 5-piece setup. I need the piece that exits the brake drum.

I've been googling and haven't found any information on the parking break. Does anyone know a part number / supplier? How about another Mazda car that uses the same system?

(I'll try calling a dealer tomorrow. Normally when I call they just say "it's been discontinued".)

Thanks.

I think I might have found a rear parking brake cable part number. The description says "Left Rear; 1 Per Car". I don't see a part for the right side. I'm quite sure my car should have one on the right side as well.

Can someone tell verify that the rear parking cable is the same on both sides? I emailed Beck/Arnley a couple days ago and haven't heard back yet.

BECK/ARNLEY Part # 0940678
Rear Drum Brakes;Left Rear;1 Per Car {Brake Cable}

Even if it is the right part the shipping from rockauto.com is more than twice the cost of the part.

Victoria British catalogue, p. 74. part # 69-206 Handbrake cable, LH rear, 12a, 79-85, drum brakes. $19.95.

Good thing you don't need the right hand side, it's 89.95.

The right cable is longer since it has to be routed close to the underbody to avoid the exhaust.

Get the cable at your corner mom and pop autoparts shop. Not Canadian Tire.

You should remove the cable before hand to see what is going on under there. You may have a rust situation going on where changing all 3 (front, left and right) would be easier. You'll also probably want the clip (mine was a bent and rusted) that holds the cable where it goes through the frame.

No. I _do_ need the right. $90 that's ridiculous.

Part 8871-44-410 is $45 from the dealer. They have to ship it from Toronto but the computer says they have it.

Thanks for the help.
