Paint ???

OK guys I need your help on this one.
In the process of painting my FB but I have no clue on what brand name should I use or were to buy it, I look up Dupont but at $400 + a Gal I rather shop around before going with those numbers.
So what Paint you guys have used or believe will get the job done with out emptying my pockets???.

I am by no means an expert.

PPG is good stuff. Quality paint is not going to be cheap but $100 a quart is a little high. You shouldn't need a galon. Remeber, you will be mixing with thinner and hardener.

Hope this helps. Hopefully someone with more painting experience could chime in on this.

Good luck.

paint

I agree with PPG thats all we used in school. Although price is changes with color and different types of paint like metallic and pearl will be alot more expensive than just an off white or something simple...
remember you usually get what you pay for if you want this paint job to last for years and years spend a little more time and money and do it right... if you think you won't have your car in a couple of years i'd say go ahead and cut some corners!

A gallon is a LOT IF you are using basecoat clearcoat... I painted my first RX-7 with 2 quarts (didn't know what I was doing) but believe it could be readily done with a quart of base and quart (maybe 2) of clear. Depends on if you are changing color or not and the condition/type of current paint you have to start with. Also, it makes a big difference if you are using HVLP (or LVLP - greatly reduces overspray) gun as that will save you paint. I usually end up throwing out up to half my paint due to improper planning (paint everything at once as opposed to piecemeal).

Clearcoat will suck up every piece of dust within a 200 square mile area and drys slowly (compared to basecoat) so be warned. It is also toxic as hell, so don't even think of doing this without a respirator.

I have added a link to my most recent paint job with PPG B/C on my DD - http://www.bimmer.info/forum/showthr...highlight=rust
