Overrev Buzzer?

Overrev Buzzer?
I've heard other first gen owners talk about an overrev buzzer. I have a 82 GSL and I've never heard it, and I've taken my car to 8000. Was there no overrev buzzer on my car or is it just not hooked up?

According to my 1980 wiring diagram the 80 has an over-rev buzzer. However, mine does not work. I am glad mine does not work... If you are a driver that needs a buzzer to tell you that the engine is turning too manys revs.....maybe you should buy an automatic!

Although the wiring diagrams show the buzzer in all years, really only the following 1st gen years have them: '79, '84, '85
I used to believe that all years had them, but from what everyone had reported and using the parts fiche, we were able to determine that only the above years had it.
I do not know why they would have it in '79, then remove it, and then put it back in '84. Seems strange. Maybe they were trying to cut costs or maybe the buzzer was scaring the crap out of the drivers?

it is true that only the '79, '84, '85 have it. There is a change in '80 in the tach part number. Also, people w/ S2s have shown pics of their clusters. The circuit board is there for the buzzer, but none of the components are soldered to that board.
I also thought all of them had it. Most everyone else thought the same, but just believed that most of the buzzers were just broken.
Of course it is possible that the non-North American cars retained the buzzer for all the years. Not sure on that one. We would have to check with some of the Aussie or European folks on that.

Huh. Alright thanks guys. I actually want one, I'd like some sort of shift light or buzzer to tell me when to shift (I bracket race) I've fucked up one too many races by shifting too early.

I'm the same way when I'm autocrossing. My 83 doesn't have the buzzer to tell me when I'm nearing 7K. It does, however, have an annoying low coolant alarm that goes off everytime I am cornering hard. I have never been able to get the radiator any fuller than the filler neck will allow, but that isn't full enough to keep that darn low coolant alarm from going off.......

If you look at IanS' post, you'll see that it looks like the buzzer is there, but the circuitry to control it isn't.

I thought they all had the buzzers.....
but if you guys have gone to the trouble of looking at circuit boards n **** Ill trust ya!!!!!!
Just for interest In Aust the early Rx models R100, Rx2,3,4,5s all had the buzzers!!!!!!!
If you drive hard and change quick enough you can keep the buzzer on through all gears.....they always seemed to break and stop buzzing really quickly!!!!!!
So as cool as they are theyre annoying, and with a decent exhaust cant be heard anyways!!!!
a little LED light runnnig off the buzzer circuit would be cool!!!!!!!
For me when buying a Rx model, the buzzer working or not was always another indicator of how much thrashing the car and engine had recieved by the previous owner...
