Overheat light

Curios if anyone has ran into this problem? My overheat exhaust light has come on and stays on all the time and my choke will not stay on anymore. Which is bad because it is 5 degrees outside. I think that they are related. I tried to bypass the heat sensor under the passenger seat, but it had no effect. Can anyone help?

well the heat light comes on for a reason ... most likely you have clogged cats now, as for the choke i'm not sure if they are related or not, but make sure that electrical current is still flowing in there.

There is a sensor on the backside of the waterpump housing. This is what tells the ecu to pull off the choke when the engine is warm enough. If the sensor is unplugged or the wires are broken off of it, which can easily happen, the ecu thinks the engine is warm and tells the the magnet in the choke to release.

As far as the exhaust overheat light, if the main cat is not glowing, usually due to being plugged, check the braided wire that comes off of the exhaust pipe and attaches to the floor pan. This wire sends a signal to the sensor that's bolted to floor pan under the passenger seat. If the braided wire is broken, that may be your problem.

If you can't repair it, either pull the passenger seat, pull the carpet back and unplug the sensor, or pull the instrument cluster and remove the bulb for the light, only if the cat is not overheating.

Welcome to the forum and the Darkside. In my sig line you wil find a link to the online FSMs along with other manuals and publications.
