From out of the Mud, Engine Conversation questions

From out of the Mud, Came bursting forth an 82 RX7! I finally went out to the storage shop and got the thing hooked up to a tow rope. Pulled her out after a lot of mud flinging. Stupid spring.

So, heres a quick update on my RX7 project, and a few questions if you guys have time to answer them.

I pulled the RX7 out of the mud to find that the driver door was unlocked some how, and low and behold: Some one had jacked the tape deck O.o. Whats more strange, is that they left all the expensive stuff in the back hatch. Spare wheel, siding, haudralic lifts for the hatch.

I'm going outside to take some pictures later today for you all of the damage the years has done to the car. Let me know your oppinion on some problem spots, if you wouldnt mind.

Now, for a bit of a story: I was at work the other day, selling computers and what not when I saw a friend of mine. His father activly restores RX7s. I said hello, and his father stood up from behind an isle. We got to talking, I mentioned that the 12 in the RX7 hardly fired last year and he got a bizzare smile, and asked if I knew what a 13B was. Of course I did! I asked what generation he was speaking of. First generation 13b, Fuel injected he replied. Well, I was a little intrigued as to why he was asking me this and I said "Do you have one?" "No" "oh" "...But, I know some one who does, and he wants to get rid of it right now."

So, He gave me some contact information. I headed down to the tire shop the engine was at later that day and started asking around for the owner of this 13b there. We struck up conversation, and I found out the reason he pulled the engine was because the car was set on fire during an act of vandalism (My heart sunk here). The engine still runs, cranks etc but the fire wiped out the inside of the car, didnt touch the engine compartment but it some how fried the computer for the engine.

So, he made me an offer: 500 dollers for the engine AND the transmission.

Oppinion, folks? I have the cash, in hand. The 12A on my 7 right now is reeally not going to last long I dont think. Secondly, I know the clutch now needs a new master and slave cylinder and hydrolic hosing. If I switch out to the 13B, I can still use those same clutch peices I have on order, right? That system should be completely independent from the engine? Should finding an ECU be hard or expensive?

If anyones installed a 13b on an 82, or any first gen 12A let me know. Im really tempted to go grab that engine. About 100k on it, so I'm told.

Oh, if your wondering: THe RX7 that burnt was his pride and joy. So, with insurance money and vengeance, he bought another first gen, ripped out the dead engine that was inside of it and instead of putting in the 13b again and finding the ECU and wiring harness, he dropped a big 350 in and now drag races it for cash and prizes O.o

The topic of a 13B being swapped into a 12a vehicle has been covered over and over. Do a search on Turbo swaps. It's the same thing except no turbo.

It doesn't have to be EFI, you could run it with a carb instead. That way no ECU and use the existing wiring as needed.

buy it, tear it down, tear your 12a down, re-assemble pieces in a -se rotating assy/housings 12a plates 4-port 13b, you will not be disappointed. give it a good helping of streetport while your in there. now source an rx4 intake manifold, redrill it for the nikki and get tuning.

Humm I know this has been covered but I'm curious on the SE rotating assembly with 12 Irons is there anyone that makes a FI injection mani or a simple walkthrough to custom a 2nd or 3rd gen LIM to mount up. I cant find anything that is pointing me in the right direction.
