Ottawa Boy Lookin' for Advice - '84GS

For starters, some of you guys might remember my posts earlier this summer with my silver '84 GS that had been sitting 4 years.. she's close to running, but needs a carb and brake work.. here's what I've got to ask:

Since she needs a new carb, I'm thinking of just skipping the step and putting a Holley Street Port Intake Kit in... from Racingbeat.com . But can you put a street ported carb on if your car hasn't been ported yet? are there any adverse affects? I figure I'll put it on to get her running, then street port her later.

And does anyone know a place near Ottawa/Montreal/Toronto where you can get your engine exterior cleaned and shiney for auto shows?

I dont' know what other problems I'm gonna run into, but I'm trying to save 3000$ canadian by May (when I get out of school for summer).. hopefully that'll cover intake kit, brakes, and anything else that could come along.. like the rad.. When I look inside, there's white gel on the elements, and when I took some rad hoses off, there was a powder inside, alot of antifreeze, but powder... hmm... bad sign...

Anyways. Any comments are welcomed.

Oh, and how about putting a pair of 8's in the compartments behind the seats? do-able? or not?

A few people have put two 8" In the back near the lights, but i put a single 12" Sub where the Bins used to be. So yes, its very do-able

you don't have the carb for rebuild? I would go this route first, that way It would be inexpensive and you could still drive your 7 around untill you save up for everthing else you want.

I have the carb for rebuild, I even managed to get the bugger out (that last bolt that the Heynes says "will take a certain degree of patience"..... they weren't kidding). Anyway..... I think the cost of getting someone to rebuild, adjust and install it, and then getting the holley installed when I finally get it.... I should probably just skip the step.

I was thinking the bins behind the seats because I wanna put another set of mid-range speakers in the back to help the trebel get through.. the ones by my feet probably woudn't cut it with big subs.
