theyre awsome if you ask me. never let me down, even cold cranking is great, i ran for a week on a dead alternator, aka all battery and i didnt even know it cause i failed to check my voltage gauge, one misconception is that they are lighter wieght, because they are dry cell, i think its average wieght, but since its drycell you can put it in the car without worry that it will vent poisonous gasses
good battery if you ask me,
good battery if you ask me,

they are awesome! I have a red top in my 85 and it starts so much better than other battereis ive had in there before. They are kinda expensive but if youve got the money its well worth the investment. Mines been in a 280z, 2 accords, and now the 7. and im sure it will continue serving for a long time. A++ ~Tim

Have a red top for about 4 years now, never let me down. If/when I ever have to buy a new battery for any other car, it will be an optima. (no I don't work for 'em LOL.)

I saw a thread a while back showing a Miata battery. Very small, very powerful, can be mounted any way you want (even upside down) and was like $75.00. Try a search and you might find it...

I've got a red-top in my Fiesta. It ran my car for almost a full week while the alternator wasn't working. Lights were a bit dim after about the 4th day, lol. I mostly got it because the battery is relocated to the right rear of the car and I didn't want corrosive gases (like normal batteries produce) to eat up the floor pan. Paid $80 for it on sale about two years ago. Worth every penny.

A agree they are way better than conventional lead-acid types tho...

It's not that powerful... only 475CCA///
I wouldn't go with less than 800CCA on an FB...

wow I've had 2 redtops and I think they both suck. It's as if it doesn't have enough cca. It spins it hela fas for about a second then it's as if I have a shitty alt, and I did but I replaced it and it still does the same thing. I'll go yellow top next time. Or get one of those little motorcycle size batteries that race cars use.

I'm quite fond of my Optima.
I was crusing down the highway one day on a 4 and a half hour trip (Another RX7Club forum member was with me :-p). About three and a half hours into the trip, the alternator stopped working. I drove for about a half hour with no alternator, pulled into a town called "Troutville, VA" and found out it was a wiring issue, and the car started right up and I drove off.
Another time on a different RX7, I mulched my belts on the highway ("huh, why am I overheating?") and the only belt left even remotely intact was the airpump belt (thank God!) so I wrapped that around the airpump and waterpump and drove 25 minutes home in traffic. Then when I got home and put the battery on the charger, the charger said it had 80% life left :p (Warning, those chargers arent ever really that accurate)
So yeh, I like them Optimas

I should also mention, why would you need that high a CCA? It's so easy to spin a rotary engine! If you need that much cranking power, you should check your wires and your starter first!

BTW, new starter, wires, plugs, upgraded ignition, spakplug/block heater, good coolant/anti-freeze, gasline anti-freeze, new/custom battery cables and grounding kit...
I'm not saying I need 800cca all the time, but then you can **** and it'll feeze before it hits the ground, the big-ol' gel cell is nice...
