Opinions Throttle Body?

I have been pokin around at my sons GSL SE, at times the idle surges from 900 Rpm to 1600 Rpm. What I found is that one shaft on the throttle body is not always returning to it's stop.

The fix which is temporay is an added spring to return the shaft back to it's stop.

I suspect the shaft and or bushings are worn here as when the engine is shut off the linkage is free. When running it is quite stiff, I am guessing that the air flow is forcing the butterflies toward the engine causing binding.

Does anyone agree with my thoughts and is there an exploded diagram of the throttle body. I have a milling machine and lathe and would either rebush or remake the shaft for this repair.

Of course if there is a simple fix that isn't expensive I would go that route first.

Opinions gentlemen please?

Thanks.

Well Im not an expert yet but to fix it to make it stock, I would use a good penetrating oil, follow by some white lithium grease spray. I havnet seen my TB yet, as I Just bought my car, and a TB was optional for me ( blah). There are mods to remove the secondary butterflys, I can't yet tell you how to or whats nice yet. heh . If you are good with a wrench, I would attemt to clean it like a carb, but you gotta make sure not to get any plastics or electronics or they're junk. Let me know what you think and what makes sense to you out of what I've said.

Tear down time.

The binding is only when the engine is running.

As I have indicated this I think is due to the amount of air trying to go past the butterflies. Have had a similar problem in my 20hp Deere tractor. Parts no longer availalbe so custom repairs are needed.

Just was wondering if anyone else has been down this path. I know when the shaft and bore is worn then air will always seep by and throw the fuel air ratio out. Fuel injection and the computer will compensate, but only so much.

Thanks for the reply.

Idle problems are a common problem on the se. Do a thread search and you will find all the answers. Also the haynes manual has all the appropriate info for the adjustments of the throttle opening and cold start assist on the t/body. rx7doctor
