The $1300 difference in price makes it a no brainer for me - go cream. Just make sure the rust under the bins is repairable - it may have had that body kit put on it because the sheet metal was so far gone.

I just looked at the black one again. IMO, it's not worth getting it for $2500. You'd be better off getting the cream one and dealing with the rust by the taillights. Even though you could spend up to $1300 in repairs on the cream one, you'll have a much nicer car than that black one after the repairs. If you don't buy it, I will!

hey mwpayne: always consider this: what do I want this car for and how long am I going to keep it? Price is not everything. what do you want? an original car, unmolested or you don't care. do you want a car you can work on or do you want one that you can buy and not do much to it?. Are you buying the car to keep it for a long time or just a toy to play with and then dump it?. Do you want a rusted , needs a lot a work car for 1200.00 or do you want a clean, 90% all done for 4500.00? are you going to drive it everyday or are you just a collector and will drive it on nice days?...There are a lot of questions you have to ask yourself. To me, if you uy a rusty car that needs paint, brakes, tires etc...then 1200.00 is "not" a good deal in my book. Especially the rust. that will be a killer. also, think about re-sale.....after you put $$ into the car, will you be able to get out of it what you put into it? with the early rx7's , you don't have a lot of room to play with before you have more into it than it is worth. but,,,,if this car is akeeper , who cares , right? In the long run, it is best to buy a unmolested, rust free car . Then you can do what "you " want to do to it, not what someone else did. ...It is so easy to get tempted by the "low" price of a car and much harder to realize that it will take a lot of money to get the car up to snuff. Trust me, I know from experience. I collect old mustangs. I bought a 66 mustang fastback for what I thought was a good price. I realized that the car needed a lot of $$$ to get the car right, and before I knew it, I had a lot more money into it than I ever thought I would. It would have been better for me to have purchased a documented and completed 66 mustang fastback for 15,000 then to buy one for 5000.00 and realize I have 14,000 into the car already and it is only 75% done. Live and learn. ...think hard about what you want and realize that if you get one that needs a lot of work, it will proably cost you more than you think to fix it up.....good luck...and don't buy a rusty car...you willbe sorry.....cjf

Well, I actually would like one that I could work on a bit (I'm not good but learning thanks to y'all!). I get a kick out of that sort of thing, I actually am now bored with my GSL 'cause i'm done with it. A car that needs paint, I can have painted the color I want, more $$ of course. I don't like the interior, rip it out, go a 'junkin' and put in a different one. I know a guy near me that's an expert on the 13B engines, that's comforting.
CJF, you make an excellent point. However, another way to look at it is spend another $1500-$2000 or so (that's hopefully taking care of all rust problems, I realize it may come back) and getting the exact car I want, inside and out. It's chancy buying a car 600 miles away sight unseen, but is a risk I may be willing to take. If I regret it, I can likely sell the car for what I paid for it, start over again.
Thanks for the feedback, I do appreciate it!

Congrats! Did you ever get pics of the bin rust of the cream one? How did it compare to the black one?

Considering the Mariah wide body kit would have cost you $1195, I'd say you got a pretty good deal - no matter how much work or money you sink in to it to get it up to snuff. Those bins don't look bad at all. Good buy!

I take a 8 hour drive (both ways) to pick it up tomorrow.
I'll post some pics of things I may have questions about. This is my first SE, so I've got to learn all over again-something about FI engines.
One note: I gave the guy I'm buying it from this link. He at first took it personal the way folks were picking at 'his' car, but then realized you'all were just being honest and helping make sure a fellow forum member was getting a good deal. He's a rotor-head too, he'll pick up another RX and join us, I'm sure. He really seems like a super individual.
Thanks again to everyone for the feedback!!
