operation clean engine bay.

im shaving my engine bay.
i need to know the BARE minimum amount of wires in the engine bay required to allow normal operation of the engine and electrical system.. my main drivers side harness is going be be left as is but tunneld through the drivers side fender between the fender and unibody.

i also plan on running any other wires from the passenger side up under the dash and wiper cowl area.

heres my setup
car is an 85 GSL
series 4 13b. absolutley no emissions or engine accessories. weber carbeuration.

fairly simple setup
the engine is currently out of the car to which makes prepping the engine bay even easier.

any help is appriceated guys. this is a project ive wanted to do since i got my first rx7 when i was 18. im 22 now.

As far as I know, besides the distributor wires, all you need are the water temp and oil pressure gauge wires. The plug on the alternator is not needed as far as I can tell, and the rest are emissions related. One wire on the alternator plug goes to the choke and check relay to operate the dash light saying alternator trouble, and the other goes through a 15amp fuse to the ignition switch. Not sure what it does though, as far as I can tell it serves no purpose.

I'm interested in this thread as I will try to hide most of the wires in there. If people can post up pictures of their engine bays with all the wire cleaned up and stuff that would be great. I will try to do a write up once done

how do you guys do the wires on the passenger side? Just feed the wires in the fenders and take them back out at the front? Do you guys drill new holes, or use pre-existing ones?

I was thinking about doing this with my 85. There really isn't that much that has to be hooked up to make these cars run.

I believe you really need that other wire on the alternator as it provides power to the field windings of the alternator. You need to give power to the field for the alternator to produce power. Two wires on the alt makes it work. The one big wire to the battery, and the small field wire, and that is it.I could be wrong on some of the details here, but I am 99% sure you need that other wire.

Ok, that makes sense. I've heard about this before, and it makes complete sense now. I'll have to wire that plug back in.

you guys have me misunderstood.

shaving and tucking an enginebay makes the engine just seem to sit there all by itself. no wires visible besides the plug wires. VERY clean not cluttered with factory wiring and sensors. etc.
ill just have to show you guys when its done
