"open door beep" while driving
you know that sounds your RXs make when you open your door?? the high pitch beep. also the light turns on, if you have the setting on "door". well, when my dad was taking me to my game yesterday, we noticed that it started beeping and the light would sumtimes flash going over a bump. he thought the door wasnt shut tight, so a hard slam to fix it. so we thought, it persists still. where is the sensor that flips on the "beep" and the light??? any ideas how i could fix this little problem?? it is so annoying. thanx Ben
P.S. no high tech words please, im a newb to cars in general

No problem - I like these types of questions
What should you be looking for? Dirt, rocks, stones. Also, push the plunger switch in and see if it returns. That might be what's wrong. If it doesn't return, then you'll need a new one, which you can probably find at a junkyard.

The sensors are on the door jams as mentioned. The drivers sensor is in the lower right corner, and the passengers is in the lower left . When they are pushed it, it shuts off the contact (ground) to the chasis, and breaks the circuit. Meaning no dinger, no lights. When they are pushed out (internal spring), they ground to the chasis, complete the circuit and make all that crap come on. So, then staying in shouldnt be the problem. You could however, have the wire that connects to the back of the switch inadvertantly touching something inside the door jam like my car. I just wrapped the spade terminal on the wire in electrical tape and I lost the problem. I guess it was just touching when it wasnt suppsoed to be. If you get really confused I can take pictures of my car.

PS - Also, on the door itself, opposite the button/switch, there is a rubber pad that is what pushes the button in to shut if off. My rubber pad was "broken". Its held onto the door with two rubber pins or something that go into the door. The top pin on my pad had broken off, allowing the rubber pad to swivel out of place, and no longer push the button in. I hope that makes sense .

i have had this happen to 2 of my 7's my 1st 1 was my 79... the little wires rotted off the crimps and just went to a ground and so it was like the door was open 24/7.. i removed them and put on new connectors and bingo all is good. then this last time was 2 time (same switch) on my 83 limited edition. it was the hatch latch switch and its a pain in the *** to get to. its behind the rear carpet. i had it go out about a year ago and i grabed 1 off a parts bitch and then about 4 mts ago on the way to the drags it happened again. the worst part was on the way back it was getting dark and the hatch light was flashing on and off

No help to you, but my loaner Passat has the nice feature of turning off the open door chime after a minute or two. Excellent when you're washing the car and want to listen to music, etc. Pretty smart Germans....maybe I'll work on this mod for the mound.
