OMP Removal question
So as required i searched and found an answer, but before i go ahead and start drilling holes i want to double check
I have an 85 GSL, OMP is not functioning as it should, want to switch to premix
Was looking at the thread that says how to install a new omp that puts 2strok into the engine, and thats where i found my info
Before i put the block off plate where the OMP was, i need to drill a small hole between the big hole and the little hole in there to connect the 2 behind the block off plate right?
Second is what do i do with the inlet lines at the carb. The thread i read is talkin about installing a new one which doesnt help me. I am assuming i can just use something like a vacuum plug to plug those holes,..?
Wanting to verify the information i have is correct.
Thanks

Cool, if you are trying to be difficult saying removing the omp is bad cuz.... then go away
If its a legit question ignore the previous bit and an explanation
OMP's are expensive and there is always a risk of them braking. I am making a race car basically and will be premixig the fuel so i will have a good burning 2stroke which will burn better and provide good lubrication. Since its becoming a race-ish/track/rally, it will be a high strain engine so it will always need alot of lubrication.
Removing the OMP is not recommended but a few people do it and just run a premix ratio..if that made sense sorry for the rant/explanation
mike, you've removed your OMP and just put the gasket and you've had no problems?

Nope, no problems, un-bolted my non functional MOP, made a gasket and bolted up the gasket and the block off plate... Dont remember if i had to use different bolts though? Anyway, its been working fine. The only thing that sucks is having to fill the tank up EVERY TIME to ensure the correct ratio of oil/fuel

Are you refering to the RA pump that replaces the stock MOP? I haven't read through thier install instructions so I don't know about drilling holes. If you are simply going premix in the fuel, make/buy the block off plate, use a gasket and cap the carb inlets with vacuum caps. The hole may need to be drilled to relieve pressure behind the block off plate. Can you provide a link to where you read that?

Yeah, I remembered the DIY thread as soon as I saw your initial post.
Okay, so pretty much nobody else on here that I've seen has done the mod in that DIY.
However, the one thing you'll want to do before attempting that is rebuild your current OMP.
"Kits" for rebuilding them are available for something like $20 from "Lowe Performance". Why anybody would name their shop that, even if their last name is Mr. Lowe, I don't know.
You have to call them, I put the phone number in a few threads around here, I'll have to search. A search for OMP rebuild should yield the results.
It's forkin easy to rebuild the OMP, and once you have that done, you can do whatever mods you want to make it take in 2-stroke from a resivoir instead of pulling oil from the pan.
OR as some of these guys suggested, you could just completely remove the OMP, put a block-off plate in its place and mix the 2-stroke yourself
OR you could buy the Rotary Aviation adapter for the OMP
So you've got three good options. If you go with the DIY 2-stroke OMP mod, let us know how it goes, because you'll be person #2 to attempt it, and maybe more people will.
Dont' forget that you can't use any plastic containers (sub-zero, windshield washer, coolant) to hold the oil. Oil will eat through plastic if you give it some time. So get a metal container. Ebay has lots of metal oil containers for things like motorbikes and whatnot.

Just finished reading through the link you provided, well, the 1st page anyway and I now understand your question better. This looks like a great, simple DIY mod to run real 2-stroke premix instead of pre-mixing in the fuel tank. Had I seen that thread before I built the 12A 1/2bp, I would have done this mod since I was too cheap to buy the RA pump. Getting a thumbs up approval from RotaryGod on this mod is a big plus.
Follow the instructions to the letter and connect the mop lines to the carb as they are stock, (ignore my comment about the vac caps). As far as a tank to use, eBay sells all sorts of surge, overflow/ast tanks for 10-15 bucks. Some of them have a clear tube on the side that shows fluid level. A friend of mine has been running the RA pump on his TII for years and has been more than pleased with it's performance. Maybe that's why he had over 177k on the engine till it finally blew. Can't wait to tear it down and see what the internals look like.

Lol, im not doing this mod at this point in time, just removing the omp for now, that was just what turned up in a search. So for now i will go with what mike and latin said and do no drilling. i may at some point do that mod but not for now
thanks for the input guys, and i will keep in mind what trochoid and vipernicus have said.
Cheers and merry xmas (or happy holidays or however it is you roll)

Sorry. I spaced out and didn't read the earlier posts which made the good point about oil versus plastic.
Making a premix reservoir to feed the MOP sounds cool, but isn't the point of all this increased dependability? How often are we all disconnecting the MOP and testing its function? What's the downside of premix? You might forget? Put too much or too little in? I guess I trust my nooby self more than I trust that pump. As soon as I know where the little devil is (It's somewhere in the engine bay from what I've been able to tell from the FSM) I'm ripping it out.

Its bolted to the engine under the water pump on the hot side of the engine. 2 bolts, and 2 hard plastic lines hold it there and feed the carb.
Downside of premix is forgetting, or not the correct mixture (almost always rich in oil) but the upside is if something happens to the omp we dont lose our engine.
