like others have said jackstands should not fail like that. i just use jackstands and have never had an issue. that being said, everytime i jack up my car. before i crawl under it or take the wheels off i kick it and push it and try to knock it off the stands. because if its going to fall, its going to fall then, while im not under it.

love the braaaap
Talk about bringing a thread back from the dead lol.
While I'm here, I had one experience where my old 82 GSL fell off the jackstands. I had the front up on the stands already, then as I was lifting the rear, the front stands just kinda slowly fell over. I was using a large floor jack, 3 1/2 ton I think. The jack needed to be able to roll, and it couldn't. Tilted the front stands just enough to tip them over. Fortunately I wasn't under the car at the time.

Glad you are ok too...I use jack stands all day at work to work on 10k plus vehicles, and I always think what if...then I get a chill up my back and keep it moving. Level ground is key...placement is also very important. Scissor jacks are completely unacceptable and I cant understand why you don't hear about more accidents with them. Invest is a decent floor jack and stands, it will be the best money you ever spent. If the ground is not level, some 3/4 in plywood squares under the jackstands would do the trick.
