OMG I am so lucky!!!!!
I had my car up on stands to change the drive shaft, and I been under it alot and all. I tried to jack the car level to put tranny fluid back in and aparently(sp) it wasnt sturdy. I leaned over to check the water level and all four jack stands just fell over and the car rolled over my foot.

That it precisly why I dont like to get under my car. If I have to use anything, I use ramps. You can use them like stand to if you jack the car up and put them under facing the other way. Just be sure they're level and your good. Jack stands are something that scare me, and I only like to work with if I cant have the tires on still, not something to crawl under.

it is ghetto but cinder blocks the way youd build a house with them i think is better seems more stable to me. or you can always weld a larger frame around the base of the jacks so they wont tip.

I've had my foot ran over when I stood too close to a friend in a car. That was crazy. But it didn't do any harm and really, it didn't hurt.
BTW, never use the stock spare wheel jack, unless you have death wish. Use it ONLY for changing a tire when you are out on the highway.

I'd like to know how you get a car to fall off 4 jack stands - as in, where did you have them mounted?
Also, does anyone else find it a bitch to jack up the front end of your 7? I bet there's not a 7 alive without indented unibody rails - and I cry every time I see those with crushed lower body panel lips...
Now, mine's low enough I can't even get a normal floor jack under it...
I, too, need a lift.
It's a rich man's game.

I've personally never had a problem with jackstands. It's roughly a 1 ton car, and I have a set of 2 ton jackstands with approximately a 1 foot base. Put that together with the 2 ton floor jack, and some solid level ground, and you're good to go.

Yea i have the same damn problem lifting the front of my car. It's to two step process jacking by the rail high enough so i can get my other jack under the front to lift it up. And yes my pinch welds, the proper lift point, on the front are smooshed over. I have always HATED the use of pinch welds, they're friggen retarded and no way maintain any structural rigidity. What a *****.

ahh....
That brings back memories of the SE suspension swap.
My driveway is not 100% level, so I also had 2 of the stands on one side up a notch higher than the others to even it out.
I had to cross my fingers each time I went underneath the car which was like 200 times.
That still wasn't as bad as going underneath the now wheel and suspensionless SE...
I have 2 wheels on their sides in the center of the car. 1 on each side....and the car is 100% balanced on those 2. We were tipping it back and forth like a "see-saw".
Anyways, I had my friend sit on the back bumper to lift the front up so I could crawl underneath it to loosen bolts for the rear brake line we needed. God that was stupid.

No, I know how the uneven driveway thing works. Mine is uneven gravel. Sometimes I can manage to find a spot that works to jack up one end or one side, but I never seem to be able to find the same place twice.

Ouch! Yeah that can get scary.
A friend of mine brought his car over to my place once to get an oil change. I never been under his car before so I jacked it up on what I thought was the crossmember..... turned out to be the oil pan. I realized this the moment I went under and found the oil drain plug "Shi--" *crack*. Seconds later I'm running through the house covered in oil with my friend deciding to be concerned or pissed at me. Luckily the yard had a replacement.

when I worked in my gravel driveway I made a set of jack stand plates that had 1/4 inch angle iron welded to it for the stands to sit in and not move. always made sure the plates were level and would take a hammer and make sure the stands were seated well after setting the car by wacking the stands in all directions. Plates were 1/2 inch steel base 14 inch square, worked great, even left the car on them for two weeks in the rain, no problems. be safe. glad you are all right.

Why I hate being under a car even with jack stands I keep the jack stands on it with the jack itself lol. My friend had stands on my old bmw when he was working on it and he was under the car with the tire off and the jack stands gave out and fell luckly the car fell on the tire he took off and he barely had room to scoot out.
