Geoff, the stock hood weighs 29-30 lbs. I know, I weighed them.
Yes it is reinforced, on the vent one you can see the yellos honeycomb under the hood, on the one that look like stock, when u paint it, u can't even tell the difference

The vent shape really doesn't matter, top of the hood where the vent is, is a low pressure area, so it sucks the air out..

I cut all of the factory reinforcement under the hood out *except* that which the hood hinge mounts too.

epoxied the hood hinge mount area to hood.

epoxied 1/2" wide wood trim from Home Depot all around the border to add rigidity so it wouldn't flex.

9 lbs lighter than stock. Didn't cost much.

Sorry but there is a problem with that which I think most of us racers and non-racers don't like, WOOD TRIM.

i used 4 carrige bolts in the hinge mounts, holds it very well
i thinking of useing a high tension wire going from the hinge mounts on the hood to each of the back corners and then back under the hood the the hinge mounts to keep it from raising when i drive, and to keep it from bending when its up

Actually theres some nice "natural composite" FC splitters running in club racing. Wood is a great material. It really is natures composite. Alot of stuff out there is also balsa core with fiberglass over top.

Brad, I'm stickin up for ya bro. Tell me you at least covered the wood?!?
