The first number was SA22C 500025. Of the 72,683 made in 1978 19,299 were exported to North America. So 502507 would be an early car, perhaps part of the third shipment to arrive and sold at a premium as demand was so high.

About 70% of that year have been junked so there would be about 50 older cars still in use in the USA.

Hi.

My one is SA22C-108***. It was made in 1978 in Japan.

From memory, RXtasy's car was made a little earlier than mine.

Bye,

My car's a bit too rough to share with the general RX-7 public right now, but it looks almost identical to joel's, except mine has factory alloy wheels on it.

ok i did some searching around and here is what i found. my car was the 2,076th rx7 made bound for the US. 79 rx7's were produced from 3/78-6/79, serial # from 500001-566640. my car arrived in the US on 5/25/78, msrp was $6,395 but an inland freight and handling fee of $125 was added, making the window sticker price $6,520. it was sold for $7,324 plus a $1,900 trade in, so the original owner payed a total of $9,224 for it at Bayshore Motors in baytown, texas. the purchase date was 6/3/78.
thanks for all the info you guys. i am still interested in finding out how many of these 79 rx7's built were S models. i guess i am gonna have to wade my way through more bullshit to find this out. if you guys have any sites that may help please post em. i did a quick search and it yeilded the following webpages:
http://www.rx7.org/public/1st-gen.html

Well...

The 79 is 563490

The 80 is 580915

And as far as pics go, here are the two, nestled together tonight. I need more garage space, because 7's shouldn't have to sleep in the cold.

are the 79-80 lighter than the rest of the FBs? I always thought they were, but my book says curb weight for '79 S and GS is 2,420 lbs which seems a bit high, and the 81 is only 2,345 lbs?
