What kind of wing is that? and how much did it cost ya?

I had allways wondered what a 1st gen would look like w/ a wing like that... not bad... I think that if you had a rear skirt it would look a bit meaner... *shrug*.... let me know on the wing tho...

Wing Info

Trailhands,

Been lookin' for a good aluminum wing for quite some time. These places, those places, cost, quality, design, fit, etc. Like my good friend Max7 says, "they make all kind of things for Hondas, cavaliers, Nissons, etc., but nothin' much for us 1st gen cowboys." How true...Anyway I ordered it out of Miami, $170.oo plus shipping (UPS). Had to do a wee bit sawin' and drillin', but she do look as sweet as maple syrup, eh?
My one gripe about 1st gens was that the design looks a bit stubby regarding the rearend. Wing seems to stretch it out some.

Any you Ohio Trailhands want one...Hell, son. I can order it up for yuh, ride your hoss down to the Corncrib, and it a couple of hours you'll be catchin' stares and smiles...

Denny, caught pimpin' again...

It helps to boost the signal to the mother ship:p

The stainless over the roof was a dealer-installed contraption; my theory is the "siding" must have been some sort of a dealer stick on special edition thing.

Uhh... any reason you need that huge thing? don't think its safe to drive over 140MPH on dem roads around you heheh.
Sorry folx, I'll be one to dislike the wing from a Boeing 747
maybe on a fully built to the hilt racecar. but it looks to wrong one a bone stock looking car. dare I say rice?
But the rest of the car is NICE! and its Silver

Subtract the red FC, add another gold FC, subtract the black -SE, and add this (by this weekend, anyway):

and you have my house

Cool

P.O.S. What a beauty! Your little pony (as my Mom would say) is just "the cat's meow!"

And Felix, you dog, you. Looks like you change 7's and rotories the way the rest of us change socks! How do you decide which gets what? Even dividing your "car funds" must be a chore. Your check book's gotta look like the Mississippi Delta!

And Max....
At 40,000 feet the weather sure is fine,
Flyin' at this speed has gotta be a crime.
My nose is headed right into the setting sun,
The throttle's open wide I let the horses run....
(In Sherlock Holmes British Accent) I say Watson, do I detect a wee bit 'o envy...":p
All kiddin' aside, Max, point taken. I catch your drift. But still, turnin' heads is lots of fun, especially when you've got the guts to back it up...

Thanx all, Tippin' the Stetson with a bow,
Denny, from the 'ol corncrib...

I think the targa bands(aluminum siding) are really cool. Used to have one on my old 7. After it got wrecked, I tried to find another, but no luck.

Tried posting a pic, but every since the last crash, none of my pics will work.

Hopefully I thinned the herd out some today. I should be down to the blue FB, and the RX-2. 2 donor cars are on the way though, but I won't count them

Oh, Im gonna have to call you on that one. big spoilers are only rice on FWD cars, cause they are almost useless. last time I checked, my FB had a rear diff and driveshaft :P j/k tacky and oversized, maybe, but not rice. (that was kinda a joke at your expense Denny)

No pictures right now, maybe I'll snap off a few when I get home if its not raining.

Thanks Joshp and Viperx7, good to know there are others out their with the Aluminum Siding on their cars. Joshp, post up a picture!

Targa Band, I like the sound of that, have been calling it a speed bar.

We need to start a club; maybe we can call the “Alcoa RX7 club”.

Note: Denny, you may be eligible to join, looks like you have meet the aluminum requirement. I like the wing!

Re: Re: Re: The 'ol Corncrib

Ok, I'll call yah back on this one
I'm just saying on a bone stock lookin car, I've seen quite a few FWD Hondas that require such a wing, Road Course and Drags
That is when it becomes functional, thats the only point I'm kickin
on is the functionality of the wing. If its there just for looks, then
no problem, but then to me it looks like Rice if its just for glitz.
I'm have nothing against the wing, I always say to each his own.

Now when yah getting the Airdam Denny? gotta keep the nose down

Not the least bit bitter, I've met Denny, VERY nice guy, as is the son's.
I'd see no problem with the wing (which is nice) on a race car.
I do however not like it on a stock street car.
this is my feelings, no bitterness about it.

Some people crack on me for putting 16's on my car.
they say they are to big. But I like 'em, and thats all that matters.

I'm not trying to be hatefull, mean, or rude.
Just trying to be honest

To be honest I've looked at getting one.
But only attach it while at the track. I would'nt leave in on my car full time. there is no need for it at this point in my cars life.

As for aluminum, I guess you've never seen my car
There is ALOT of aluminum in/on my car

Wink

Okay, Mah Trailhand Pardners...

Ahhh, to wing, or not to wing...That is the question. Is it nobler to look cool, or to be functional?
:p

First off, it's not all that big...It's no "terminator," or plastic "Apache." It's not wider than the car it's mounted on. Functional? You betcha, as it's adjustable...at speeds over 60 mph you can feel the difference in the stability and control and at yet higher speeds the handling difference is quite pronounced. Yep, I'm lookin' forward to a some sort of front end that will keep air from slipping under the car. I'll also be looking for some nicer looking wheels...Max7's car has great lookin' rims. I'm also serious about either buying or designed projector lamps in the headlight buckets with perhaps Lexan covers. I'm also going to mount driving lamps...Not those toy, colored, $49.95 specials, but true driving lamps. Hell, I mounted aircraft landing lights on my old Z/28, and Rally Volvos. Sure lit up the road, but you had to watch out that you didn't set fires...

I'm not entering the "Concours," and this pony is no "Trailer Queen." After 20 plus years of boat-sized Prowl cars, and beat-up Cruisers, and some "Souless" daily drivers, I mean to make my driving fun....If I turn a few heads while doing it....That's okay too.

Max is a good pardner of mine, knowledgeble, and very kind and generous. I respect his position, I may not agree, but I know that moving forward into the future is not always comfortable. In '69 when I bought my Z/28 I had dozens of people of all ages, genders, race, etc. asking me about the deck-lid spoiler, and plastic chin dam, not to mention the cherry red color, with big black A/28 stripes...Now, even the cheapest cars have spoilers, aluminum wheels, smooth noses, and air-dams. Yeah, some of that is just style, but it's also functional, and it affects overall performance to the plus side...

I'm not Jim Hall, but I've met the man, and talked with him back int the late '60's. And I heard him loud and clear on the subject of areodynamics. It was the future then, and the present now.

I'm a firm believer in the maxim, form follows function. My pet peeves are 4000 pound plus SUV's and pick-ups driven by a single 100 to 225 pound drivers. With their "off-road" lamps, brush gaurds, huge tires, bug deflectors, wings on roofs and even on truck beds, and 10 mpg....Talk about inefficent! I love the envious looks of those pussies when I scorch their doors, and leave 'em wobbling in the dust. Heave Ho, mah lads! Haul on the ropes and drag anchor, we're coming to another blasted corner!.....It's just a damn shame.

Ennaways, Thanx all, pro and con...
Least this is a more interesting discussion than some others I've been party to...

Peace to all, victory to the magnificent 7
A tip of the Stetson,
