ok tell me whats wrong with my fuel lines please

ok so i have an 84 GS 12a. i just put a new motor in it and we cant figure out why im not gettin fuel to the motor. my fuel lines are bone dry. i siphoned out my old gas and put NEW GAS in it. then i replaced the fuel filter. i have my fuel pump hooked up by a toggle swith. its kinda noisy though. but before i blew my last motor that how i had it and it ran fine. at gas like crazy but ran just fine. ok so now i havent messed with that fuel lines or pump at all. even when we swapped the motors out i left the switch hooked up and then rehooked it up to the battery when i was done. when i turn the power on i can hear the pump and it sounds like its sucking sludge through the pump. never heard it before but i dunno. when i changed my fuel filter they said to watch out for fuel. nothing came out. i went up top to the carb, nothing in the lines to check. what could be clogging it? do i have more than one filter? i have it hooked up right, the filter that is. what else could be wrong. helps is greatly needed. thanks Matt

Did you check the fuel line for correct installation? Is the fuel filter installed properly? How is your fuel pressure? Are you running the stock carb or after market?

Lightly hold your finger over the outlet of the pump, and have someone turn it on. you may not feel anything coming out, but it should help it to regain it's prime. I have had to do this a couple times when an electric pump was totally dry, and it has always worked for me.
Another "trick" is to spray a little carb cleaner into the fuel line going into the pump, and reinstall the line. This will help to dampen the vanes, allowing it to actually pump.

i had the same thing happen to mine, i got the pump working and unhooked everything to do a rebuild and i hooked it up made a little noise but would not pump at all, it was garbage, i went and got a new pump and just modified the brackets a little and no problem. take the line off the out side of the pump and just turn the switch on dont crank it, it should shoot gas if not you need a new one, plus the metal lines corrode easily and may need to be replaced. i had to replace my line from the pump to the firewall and it only sat a little while. hope this helps

Sounds like either the fuel line is plugged, the pumped needs primed, or both.

If the fuel line is plugged, you will need to remove the fuel pick and clean it out. I had one that was plugged, but open just enough to let the car start and idle, give it any throttle at all and it died. The in tank filter was split and the pickup tube was full of rust. Took it to the sand blast cabinet, blew it out, all good after that.

Simplest way to test is, take the in bound fuel hose off of the pump, the add another one there that is stuck in a gas can. That will tell you if the pump is working or not. Keep the new fuel line as sort as possible.

Dude, I'm telling you the best way to do it. Hold a torch to a fuel line before the pump. It's bound to work. If it heats up the gas, MAYBE YOU'LL GET MORE POWER!

Reminds me off that video with the CRX and the guy heating up his NOS tanks in the A/V section.
