Oil smoke issues

I was driving my 7 to work today and there is a neat little approach road that is nice and curvy. Needless to say I was givin' 'er **** Anyhow when I downshifted to 2nd to take a corner, I left a hella big plume of oil smoke behind me. Now I know that generally oil smoke at high RPMS is indicative of a bad oil control seal, but it doesn't happen all the time. Not only that, but after the plume, the car smokes at any rpm for a minute or two and then stops entirely. It barely smokes on startup, if at all and doesn't seem to smoke at any other time. In fact this phenomenon has only happened three times in the past year or so, only after I got rid of my thermal reactor and installed my RB header.

So aside from an oil control seal, what else could it be? Could my OMP be sticking open at WOT? Is my car burning some oil and only now that my thermal reactor is not installed that I see it?

Suggestions would be appreciated.

Mins does that after a heavy decel, say from 7000 RPM in first when I'm autocrossing on a small course. As far as I can tell it's just the oil control seals. Mine also shoots a bit of smoke for a few seconds afterword. It hasn't caused any problems although I have to bring oil to the track now.

The OMP pumps too little oil to cause any smoke. Just port and rebuild your engine. I did that on one of mine. The smoke went away.

That's easy for you to say. I'll see how it runs at the autoX event tomorrow before I make any determinations. I just got back from a vacation in Paris so money is a bit tight right now. It doesn't do it at every downshift or high rpm operation, so I hope it's not too far along. It didn't smoke one bit all winter.

Oh ok, you should be fine for many more miles. It's just a sign of tired oil O rings and possibly worn oil seals. I wouldn't worry about it until it starts blowing a bat screen for several minutes in a row. Hehe, it looks like you're doing a smoke show, but it's a lot easier on the tires. Smells a little different too.

Yeah mine is great, I come screaming into the stop box into the autocross and then like 2 seconds later I get passed by my own huge cloud of smoke. The starter was laughing and coughing so hard he couldn't move the cone for me to drive out of the course. I really don't think that this is causing any problems with the engine, if anything it's just getting some extra lube at high RPMs.

P.S. I'll probably rebuild and streetport it this winter anyway.

Well it does it all the time now. It just started up all of a sudden this morning and now it smokes at sustained high RPM, especially during downshifting. I guess I'd better grab an extra quart of 20W50 before I hit the autoX course tomorrow.

Any suggestions on additives to possibly allieviate this problem? I'm not looking for a complete fix, just something that may reduce the smoking for now.

Maybe straight 50 weight? My Cosmo smokes when it sits there and idles for a few minutes. It also smokes a lot at startup. Since it's an auto, I can't do the 'upshift puff o' smoke' test. I'm sure it would pass that test with flying colors though. Or make that flying blue colors.
