I drilled and tapped (british) threads in the banjo bolt that fastens the oil cooler line as I have a 1980 engine. 1980 engines didn't have a threaded hole for an oil pressure send bell to be inserted like my 1981 engine did. Seemed to be convenient as any place to drill and tap.

Here you go!

You will need a metric adaptor kit form Autozone. It has a coouple of fittings, not sure which size worked.

I just used a 1/8" npt fitting in the hole where the stock sender was located. Worked fine, ne leaks.

THe fitting is actually 1/8 BSPT. You can get an adapter to run oil to your turbo, an after market oil pressure gauge, and your stock pressure gauge all off one adapter at tunertoys.com. That is where I got it for my civic. THe threads are all the same. I am going to buy a couple because I always need them. It works great. Two sides are NPT and the two sides are BSPT. Very nice piece.

The adapter at Tunertoys is nice, get the duel for $20 and you have ports for your stock Pressure sender, and then two 1/8 ntp for an aftermarket oil pressure and temp. Only issue may be space for everything.

the second link I posted is a replacement filter pedestal, it has two 1/8 ntp ports and would be great if you are changing over an 83 - 85 12a to under rad oil cooler.

R5 rear plates also don't have a threaded hole there. On one of my engines, I drilled and tapped the banjo bolt. I took a chance and drilled and tapped the rear plate of the other engine (when it was dissassembled, lol). Both ways works, but I prefer the fitting to be in the stock location.

the fitting that came with the gauge is tapped on the rear banjo bolt. Its sealed with liquid teflon. same fitting for over 5 years with no problem. As I mentioned in my other posts, I dont rely on an old gauge. I also have mechanical water temp and oil pressure gauges.

The gauge should come with all the fittings/plastic hose. Do you still have the stock under-the-filter-oil cooler?? the gauge doesnt need to be autometer..an EL CHEAPO sun brand will do the job.

OK, I never tried on that one. But here's what you can do. You can mount it on the stock location but get a longer nipple (not the type you suck on) and a "Tee" or "Wye" fitting to allow you to have both stock and mechanical gauges.

True. May as well make it nice...Autometer is the way to go. Autogage is good also but not the water temp gauge....the thermocouple is not sealed like the autometer so the gauge picks up additional heat from the engine compartment.

I have the same question i have the cooler under the filter too, but i'm not sure which is the oil line. I think its the one metal line that is under the cooler with the banjo bolt, I was told that there is an adapter that mazda makes. I'm not sure where to go to get that adapter. The dealership had no idea what i was talking about. Also where is a good place to put the water temp sender. I have a mechanical gauge and i was thinking about putting it in the top radiator hose somehow. Any input?

if your talking about installing the sending unit for the oil pressure it is the gold mushroom looking thing which is just above the top right spark plug when putting the new one in take your time and buy a adapter fitting that converts the 1/8 npt to a 1/8 staright or parallal.. it will be better in the long run because now i have screwed up threads in my housing..........

as for the water temp..they sell at ita racing a upper raditor house adpater which is just a pipe with a bung welded in so you can install the sender that way or there is a place under your air condiotioner that you can hook it into......
