it could be. check the oil pressure sender on the left side of the engine, under the oil filter. its common that the blade connector comes loose and wiggles off. also, oil leaking from the beeive oil cooler can cause oil build up on the connector and cause it to coke up and to give a false reading or no reading at all.

Bump....

I'm wondering: I have no oil pressure (or temp, but that's another story) gauge either. I've found THREE loose wires under the beehive. One has a spade connector on it. It's just hanging out, not connected to anything (I think it's a yellow/brown wire....) I assume that's my oil pressure wire, yes?

The other wires have no special termination to them, just broken ends. One is black/yellow, and very short coming from the harness. I'm assuming it's a ground wire?

And the last one I THINK is my water temp, it's also yellow/(red??) and is ripped out of the connector at the block.

Can anyone shoot me some advice on where this black/yellow should connect to? I'm thinking it's some kind of ground wire for the guages to work, becuase I hooked up the wires where I THOUGHT they belonged and the guages still didnt work. I pulled them back off for now till I hear back from you all. Thanks. Sorry to thread-jack.

You might be able to find you answers in the factory service manual located in the FAQ section. I believe that they have wiring diagrams included...

Your right, I thought so too... but the only FSM's I've seen are for an '80 model with no oil pressure sending unit, and an '85 with a 13b which seems to have some slightly different wiring harness'.

The hard copy 85 FSM has wireing diagrams for both the 12A and 13B. If the online one is complete, it should too. If the connectors at the ends of the wires are broken, a female spade will work for the oil and a female bullit for the temp. Commonly found at parts stores.

Yessir, your right - unfortunatly I've got an '83... the manual SEEMS to only show wiring for 13b. I'll trying to re-read it again for any 12a info.
