oil leal (slow)
quick ? i have an 84 gs 12a and i have degreased the motor and cleaned everything up but i have a leak coming from the oil cooler filter area but it is from underneath and i cant really see under there though i used a morror. just wondering if there was a common gasket or washer that goes bad. or better than that if there is a cheap upgrade i could do that would eliminate the prob. thanks for any info.

I'm almost 95% sure that it's probably the two rubber o-rings that go on the oil filter tower. If you take off the beehive oil cooler directly underneath the oil filter you will find two small rubber washers/o-rings. As you might guess the rubber and oil don't get along very well and as a result these o-rings fail quite frequently, causing annoying leaks. I would say it is a very good chance that this is what is causing your oil leaks. I believe that it is a very very common problem. You can get replacement o-rings online. I got mine from http://www.victoriabritish.com they are 60 cents a piece. If you want to get online and order a few of them the catalog number is RX.31 (the newest catalog). The part number for the o-rings is 53-336. You'll need two of them. You can also call Victoria British to order them 1-800-255-0088. I'm pretty sure that you can also find these o-rings from Racingbeat.com or Mazdatrix.com probably carries them as well. I got mine from Victoria British, and it only took two days, but I'm in Indiana. They ship from Lenexa, Kansas. Racingbeat and Mazdatrix are both in California, so if you are in a hurry I'd probably stick to Victoria British. Good luck!

Some have also converted to a second generation front mount air to oil cooler as well. I believe you have to have some oil lines custom made though, if you do this. The fittings are different between 1st and 2nd generations. Also, any rx7 before 83.5 should have a front mounted oil cooler instead of the beehive. I think that the GSL-SE cooler is larger than the early 12A front coolers though....

-SE mounted in front of the radiator (longer hoses too)
- 79-82 12a were mounted under the radiator.
Same number of rows, but a Rx-4 has 1 extra row.
