Oil leak from bell housing...
5) if you have a lot of oil leaking from the transmission bell housing (front edge or starter mount), you may have the dreaded 'tension bolt leak' which is caused by the O-ring at the head of each of 18-20 tension bolts that sandwich the engine sections. These leak into the space occupied by the clutch and transmission front cover, resulting in a slipping clutch and oil leak from what appears to be the transmission.
I'm not exactly sure if it's coming from the engine side but I think it is.
I've removed the starter a few times and a small amount of oil leaks out when I do. Is there any other possible reason why I would have oil in the bell housing?

Sure it's possible. There is a rear main oil seal which is a possible source. As far as oil leaking from a tension bolt seal, iirc, there is only one tension bolt that is within the oil flow/galleys. This is the same bolt where the dreaded dowel pin leak shows up.
In my sig line is a link to the online FSMs. In the 85 edition is a line drawing of the entire oiling system.
You will need to pull the tranny to determine where the leak is coming from. Before going through that effort, make sure you have eliminated any possible external sources for the leak, i.e., dowel pin, oil filter, oil filter pedistal and/or beehive o-rings, perhaps even the banjo bolt connecting the oil line to the bottom of the rear iron.
