Oil cooler line on 83-85 12a's
When removing the engine, I accidentally bent up the steel oil cooler line on my 85 GS. At first, i didnt think it would be a problem, since it was barely bent. yet when I was putting it back on, I managed to get a nice kink in it. So, I began looking for replacement oil cooler lines. Well, racing beat doesnt offer an "aftermarket" oil line kit for this year and model, and neither does mazdatrix. My only option is a factory oil cooler line, which runs in the mid-100's. I can understand why they dont offer any replacement lines with just hose and fittings, because you would have to have a special fitting to attach the line to the oil filter pedestal. Does anyone have a solution to my problem that wont break the bank? The only thing I could think of was to cut the oil cooler line just below the filter pedestal, and somehow flare the end to I could slide a hose over it and attach it with a clamp so it wouldnt slip off, then just connect the hose to the bottom of the engine with the fittings racing beat and mazdatrix offer.

just make a rubber line using some fittings from an old set of hoses. problem solved. or ditch that oil cooler and put in an air cooling oil cooler. better yet, ditch the shitty 12a for a 13bt or 20b. you won't be sorry.

thanks fd racer. I might just try to hit up a junk yard, if I can't find a good hose, then I will just basically shop out the middle section of the steel line and replace it with rubber hose in a fashion that it will hold.

Your options are :: go to a junkyard and get another hardline to match the one you bent up,or from a 12a with an air to air oil cooler grab both lines and use those or just the fittings and use new hose, i would also advise to use 2 clamps per fitting = no leaking.
On my -SE the oil cooler hoses were shot, and i've got rolls of stainless steel braided hoses in different sizes.
I just used the old fittings, doubled up the clamps and i'm good to go. and cheap too.

Hum not all rubber lines are made the same. Make sure it's right proper part and can withstand the exposure to chemicals and heat. On a hot day that oil can get really hot and if you have bad rubber and it melts your looking at a compartment fire and or blown engine risk.

When I was doing an engine swap in my FC I decided the factory lines needed replacing. I took the old ones down to a local hydraulics shop and they remade the lines of industrial rubber using my old fittings. Was about $50 for both lines.
