Being buried in snow won't cause rust. What does it is driving around on sand (which wears the paint) and salt (which is corrosive). Snow is approximately as much of a rust risk as humid air... maybe less.

Yea, and another thing is a bit of water sitting on the surface for a few hours before drying won't begin to rust unless it has somewhere to get to the metal(ie chip off the paint/clear coat, or worn area from salt/sand).

Oh. Crap. My '85 is done for then. I even put it under a tarp.

Even with good paint and clear coat if a car sits with pools of water on it it will wear through the coats and cause surface rust.
