Full carbon would be pricey. Not only is the cloth expensive but the resin costs far more than FRP resin.
Like anything car related, you can have whatever you want - provided you're willing to pay for it

like manntis said that **** isnt cheap. if you got the money you can go all carbon its nice when its done. i dont have extra money laying around so i just did a fiberglass hood with cloth. cheaper resin and hardener than to do full carbon. i guess its all in what you prefer and how much money you have.

Thats why one shops around,,,alot thats why i posted
the price of carbon cloth i found near me...$ 28.00 dollors a yard. thats 36' X 50' the rolls are 50 'inches long,, and can be larger.. standard 'ol fibre glass resin
one can buy at a walmart has a yellowish tint to it at
around $ 9.00 dollors a quart. the resin(s) that dry clear
are around the same price, but walmarts don't carry a
marine type resin like that. the ideal way is to find a wholesale distrubitor and buy direct,,,, way cheaper.
the stuff that is just out of this world,,price wise is the carbon kevlar cloth... kevlar i believe is the weave of the cloth. not like a twill weave.
it would be safe to say for one hood two gallons of resin
around 10 lbs.

And what would the cost be if one were to ask for a custom hood WITH THE FREAKIN' AIR DAM?..

You can't really see it in the FD pic I posted in another thread, so I'll draw it out, but that means I have to find someone to host it since they aren't going to address the server solution here anytime soon...

Alright, I'm about to lose it here. Do you think I would start crafting carbon fibre hoods without determining how carbon fibre hoods are made? The baking is part of the process. Give me just a little credit will ya? What next, you're going to 'helpfully' remind someone doing an engine rebuild to put oil in their engine before starting it up?
As to custom hoods, it's like I said before: you can have anything you want as long as you pay for it. Making a custom style hood different from the rest of the production obviously means making a new mold. This drives up cost and if the demand for two types of hoods isn't there, someone loses money. That'd be me.

Instead of thinking 427,, think L-88 it should be easy
to research now.. mario, mario. lol
so whats involved.. just more pvc for a second mould
cast another mould while your still casting. saves time,
time is money. now is the time. you can even cast it from the first casting buck/mould what have you.
have you started using resin/cloth yet ?

Sorry to ruffle yer feathers, manntis, but you exhibit extreme politico-speak a whole bunch so I tend to want to get everything explicitly when "talking" to you...there are some doing the carbon fiber thingamabob and just stopping at the resin part like it was fiberglass and I was curious as to what autoclave y'all had lying around which would give you a leg up on the others...
I now officially give up on the air dam idea so as not to further enrage Manntis.......adios!

its not so difficult to build a structure in which to 'bake'
parts with the area of a rx7 hood..construct it of cheap weld-able material. all corners/edges get foil. and that pink attic insulation. a portable forced air heater. and do whatever you have to not burn down the camp. no fires please.
i just seen an NSX that is completly carbon fibre (on a website)

The metal has been cut out for the vents and sculpting is underway. I took pics but am having trouble loading them through the IEEE 1394

Anyone ever thought of making replacement fenderwells, or a replacement front valence out of fiberglass? I know Japco has the fenders, but i was just wondering. Hell, fiberflass light cover and a front valence would rock just to keep the chips/rust down.
