There is not one person in my town that tunes these carbs. I have been learning on a curve but to slow process. compaired to holleys and edlebricks are they that difficult?

No, they are usually pretty easy if they are put together right<correct float level, correct settings for the idle mix/speed, etc, then its a fight to see if you have all the million vacuum hoses hooked up right, coasting valve, good reason to remove and plug off all that junk to simplify. Ofcourse, its a pain to deal with nikki in stock situations, since there can be many vacuum leaks, etc.

Yea, I didn't find the adjustments that hard to get right, but the vaccum system is a mess on that thing.

Absolutely! If you did'nt have all that emissions crap to provide a million opportunities for leaks, then it's very simple to tune.
In fact, I'm willing to say that if you spend three hours trying to set idle speed and idle mixture (in that order) and you can't tune it- Even if you've never done it before to any carb, then you MUST have a problem elsewhere.
Something is messed up. Like these guys say- most likely a vacuum leak.

Describe your symptoms and what you've done so far.

everything is removed, maybe to much. all the choke stuff is off, minus a mod I did to manually control the choke. the dashpot is off and not one electronic is hooked up. I also removed the shuttervalve and epoxed it in. yes it is stripped. the strang thing was the secondaries seemed to spill fuel after the they should have stopped. like taking a **** and when you stuff it back in your shorts you leak some. any takers

come to think of it the most vaccume I can get is 20 inMg or what ever it is. timing is set stock. the floats are equal in the glass right level with line. it stays pretty level under load also. idle is set at 900 and thats as low as it will go. it seems to like 1500-2000 idle but I don't. reves great to 4000 then bogs. I believe the secondarys are flooding but not sure. new plugs, cap, rotor, and 200000 miles.
good power in the low end. laid a nice patch in my driveway. new fuel filter and fuel pump. I had the engine soaking in atf for months.
oil pressure reads 30 at 2000 rpm.

I just wanted to say that Sterling's sig has profoundly changed my life.

And about Nikkis - all I gotta say is Yawpower.

You don't have your "Float Bowl Solenoid" hooked up!
It's a single black and white wire attached to a plunger device that is threaded into the side of the carb just under the oil inlet lines.

You NEED to hook that up! It's an emissions control device. Your float bowls have to be vented in order to flow fuel. This little device allows that to happen, but closes the vent when the engine is off so no fumes escape. It's only open when there's 12V going to it!

...And if you've lost where the wire plugs into, then be aware that evenn though it's a black wire, it needs to be hooked up to an ignition switched POSITIVE 12Volts source.

Betchabetchabetcha!

I would like to think so, but in fact it's because I learned that lesson the hard way, too!
