Lightbulb NO poweresteering good or bad

I have an 84' gsl-se and I was wondering if I should keep my power steering or not. My power steering pump is not working and I guess you can say I don't want to waste the money to buy a new one. It's fine with me if I don't have power steering, but I don't know if its fine with the car. Should I take the air pump off and how do I take the rest of the emission crap off.

My gsl-se came with no power steering and I think its great. I've had power steering before(not in a 7 though) and the feed back of exactly what the tires are doing is very vague compared to my rx. The only thing that sucks is parallel parking, cause its a workout.

No ps on my 83 gsl. I agree with rx7 Nut. I actually "feel" the road, but you're asking for a work out when the car is moving very slowly.

yeah, I "think" the rack is different as well as the turning rate on the steering wheel. I don't know if it is bad for the car to use it with out the power steering working or not, but I know of one guy whose p/s stopped a long tome ago and he just never did anything with it...don't know....cjf

Yeah, the non-ps box is like 1 1/2 turns less from lock to lock, so it's a little harder to turn, but I find it easier to drive. My -SE had power steering but I felt the steering was vague enough without ps-lag, so I disconnected the pump and it still works fine. And yes, parrallel parking is a pain. Gives you a good upper body workout tho

i have a GS w/o ps, and i like it... as mentioned above, you really can feel the road--not the vague stuff ps will give ya...

find an empty parking lot---a big one w/o stuff to crash into--then give enuf speed and turn sharp. you will lose control but will be able to feel how the steering wheel will whip around, i feel that there is more room for controlling your car when you drift cuz you can FEEL everything

if you don't want to keep the power steering, you have to change the steering boxfor a non pwer steering one. is a pain in the *** to steer a pwer steering gear box without power steering.

i don't have PS i my GSL, and it's not that bad to turn the wheel when going slow/stopped. just a little extra effort. it gets a lot worse when the tires are low.

ps

Quite a few people hunt down ps racks and then run them without the pump, it is supposed to be a happy medium between the sterring box and the ps. My 2 cents

I guess I will take it off. From the looks of the pump it looks pretty haevy, I might be able to shed a few pounds. So far I have taken the airconditioning off now I will take the power steering off and later I will take the emssions stuff off. I would like to prepare the car so that I might be able to compete in Solo 2. I don't know if trying to save wait will put me in another class or not, I havn't been able to get my hands on a rule book.

Hey,

I maybe interested in taking the power steering parts off your hands… that is if the price is right and things are within reasonable state of fixing-up.

Let me know…

The only thing I would get rid of if I deffinately took it off would be the pump. I would like to leave all the other lines so if in case I decided I would rather have power steering than I could buy a new pump. The pump doesn't look like it has a pulley. The pumps shaft looks like it broke off or something. I'll try and get in touch with you if I decide to toss it. Thanks for the offer.

My GSL leaked when I got it so I took of the belt. My SE leaked when I bought it even more, every 200 miles (3 days) I'd have to add some. So, I took the belt off. It's great for everything but mall parking. No problem autocrossing either.
