No more Sumitomos.... Now what?

So, my beloved Sumitomo HTR 200s are no longer available. I've run these tires in size 215/50/13 for the last few years, and have always been very happy with their performance.

Now it is time to re-shoe the 7, and I'm having a bit of trouble finding anything close to the size that I like. Sure, you can find a few tires in 165 or 175 width, but that's not nearly enough meat for my wheels.

What are people finding available out there? How happy are you with them?

Of what's out there these days I like the Kumho Solus KR21, great tire, great price but maybe a bit to domesticated for your purposes Mark:

i went to fireharwk GT's, and they're even better than the htr 200's in my opinion. they're more grippy.

i still have my two htr 200's as back up tires, lol.

Get yourself a set of 15's and get a set of RE-11's. You won't regret it.

If your looking for a performance tire thats 205/60R13 you can only get toyos or
hoosiers. Trust me I've looked. You need to go up to a 15 inch wheel to get a
good selection.

How depressing. Just spent over an hour at two different main brand tire shops. They were still scratching their heads when I left...

Short of changing wheels, or going with a very racy tire, there's not a lot out there for me it seems.

Well, part of the problem is that my wheels are 8" wide. So I can't really run anything under a 205 without getting funky. Finding plenty of race type tires, but nothing for daily driving.

13x8's are pretty much a race size, hence the tire selection. Why not get yourself a set of stock rims for daily use and put race rubber on the 8" wheels?

I got around the 13" problem by getting a couple sets of LE wheels. One for R compound, one for street. A lot easier to find tires for in both scenarios.

Well, I really don't want to have to change sizes if I can avoid it. I might be able to move up to a 14" rim without adjusting my suspension, but I don't want to end up in a position where I have to drive to an event, and then change all my suspension settings so I can swap back to 13" race tires (my race wheels are also 13").

So, still banging my head over this one. I might end up having to find a set of stock 13" wheels and run skinny rubber for daily driving.

Toyo RA1 are amazing tires. I need to step up my game and get 4 of them before there gone for good. at 250 a tire there a lill spendy

But those aren't suitable for daily driving, are they? I know Sam was running 888s daily a while back, but he mentioned that they flatted very easily.

If you do that there are still 205/60R13 tires out there for the stock skinnies but they
will be S rated and not H rated like the HTR 200.

BTW, I just sent an email into sumeitomo as well asking how I can get the size
we want thats in their online PDF catalogue. Hopefully they will get the message.
I may bug my tire guy and see if he can get them at all. He's got lots of sources.

What 205/60s have you been seeing? I can't even find anything (non-race) in that size.

These where on my FB when I got her. I don’t know how many miles where on them but they were close to the wear indicator but I still drove on them. In FEB of 09, the month I got her there was a huge snow storm. As I had just got the car I had no other tires so I drove around on them. In 30* weather the tiers where picking up salt and gravel from the road. When it was warm out the tires performed like no other. They’re very grippy. There operating temp is 130 don’t think I ever got them that hot but the car rolled better and had better handling with them. I still have two mounted on steel drag wheels that I throw on when I go to the strip as with the posi on she goes. Doesn’t spin at all.

we have a TON of run time on R888's on the integra, and a spec E30, and they are really good, we can get em to last 25 hours straight on the rear, and about 6-8 hours on the front.

i don't know what that would translate to on the street but i don't see why you couldn't get 2000-3000 miles on em.

You should like the R888's. They are fine to drive on the street to and from an event but mine are getting pretty bald at about 5k with roughly a dozen events on them. Most of the miles were just driving to and from events.

It should be noted that I only drive the car hard since it is purely a toy.

I have a set of RA1's. I've got two races and two Dragon runs on them so far and I'm impressed. They're really not bad for daily driving... they're quiet and grip decently in the rain, but it's a waste of rubber to use them for anything but racing.
