No mo carb woes
After 3 days of rebuilding, its finally running. I was givin a car that limpd on the primaries and fell down on the secondaries. Now it starts on the 1st try and runs like a bat outta hell.
The rebuild wasent that hard. The first time on the manifold didnt go too well. It would start and idle at 3000 with the choke closed. Die with it open and refused to run. OK. Vaccume leak. Tore the carb off and gooped up the carb/manifold gaskets with rtv. I also took off everything that had nothing to do with the throttle or a manual choke. Got in the car gave it 2 pumps and it started and idled at 1200. No misses, No hesitation with a blip of the throttle. Just a little adjustment of the mixture and idle screws and it was good to go. I did get rid of all the emissions. I hated to do it because i want this car as a daily driver. But made things alot more simple.
I owe everything to you guys and this site. Thanks for the confidence and the 1st GEN FAQ.

I find this to be bad advice.
"Gooping up" the carb gaskets with RTV can plug passages and rendure the carb a paperwieght until you break it all down and use dental picks, etc, to get the rubber out.
You can plug idle passages and the vacuum secondary diaphragm circuit.

I didnt use it on the actual carb rebuild gaskets. Just the gaskets between the carb/plastic spacer/manifold. I should have been more clear. Or better yet, just get you to rebuild it alltogeather.

The phenoilc spacer has gaskets bonded to each side at the factory. If the gaskets start to leak, then all you can do is put 2 new gaskets on over top of the old ones. Do NOT try to remove the factory bonded gaskets! You WILL ruin the spacer.
