Nikki Rebuild-No Fuel

Just got done rebuilding the Nikki on a stock 84 GSL. It was running fine last week but the original carb started leaking fuel so I bit the bullet and rebuilt a spare I had. Got it put on, bypassed the fuel pump relay in order to prime the bowls. The bowls looked good so hooked the relay back up. Go to start it, it's not getting any fuel. Don't know where to begin.

I searched but didn't see anything that helped. Not sure why there's no fuel getting to the nozzles.

Do you still have fuel in the bowls? Or are they empty now?

I have fuel in the bowls. However, I don't have the accelerator rod mounted to the throttle linkage. DOH!

It's always the simple things... My last rebuild had chronic flooding issues, I thought the needles were binding and went for two days bashing the air horn (which did actually fix it temporarily), then when I was just about fed up found that the seats had come loose as I didn't do them up tight enough... Ran smooth as after that. Lol

I know my accelerator rod is not connected but I'm unclear if this should cause the car not to run at all. I can pour gas in the carb and get it running for a few seconds and would think that would start pulling fuel from the jets.

In 14 years of owning a FB I've never had to mess with the carb (any carb for that matter) other than adjusting the idle. I'm slowly understanding how it all works.
