Have a flooding problem with the nikki. (have read FAQ on flooding)
What and where is the "float bowl vent solenoid"
After running the car when I turn it off the carby keeps leaking petrol, can see it pooling above the butterflies.

Uhhh mine isn't.. I actually just brought it BACK to the shop again that was supposed to fix the flooding / dripping fuel issue and didn't. The last time it flooded out, fuel was coming right out of this thing and collecting on the block where the intake meets, a bubbling puddle of gas. So where the hell is it supposed to be pluged into...??? It's a YAWcarb btw.

wire it to a 12v constant source. i run mine straight off the alternator. if it is not getting that power source it WILL NOT VENT FLOATS and therefore carb will kill itself.

Yeah, unless you have a different top on that Yaw, I would expect the valve was removed.
Sticky needles, severely out of whack float settings, and an unhooked Float Bowl Solenoid tend to have identical symptoms.
If you have none of these issues, then the fuel level should be visible in the float bowl sight glass...Ideally exactly half way, according to Yaw. (The fuel level works in conjunction with the fuel pressure to determine level drop rate, which uncovers the cross-drilled holes in the emulsion tubes, thereby leaning the mixture to ideal settings at appropriate load/RPMs...Point is, the fuel level could be at the top of the glass and the carb will still "work"; just not ideally. If you can't see the top of the fuel level, then chances are the needles are not seating well enough to shut off the flow, and , well, it's gotta go someplace.

The seloniod is definatly there... There was fuel spewing out of it and the one wire plug is just hanging in the wind... If YAW removed it or blocked it off from the inside or whatever it is you can do to this thing then why the heck is fuel spilling out of it..??? I'll try the 12V method see what happens. Thnks.

another note, when mine would stick sometimes and i couldn't get it cranked then i would open one of the 12mm bolts at the bottom of the float to drain the fuel level. THEN tap that banjo fitting because with the fuel maxed out in there it wouldn't allow the needle to drop at all. just a thought.

connected the solenoid to 12v last night heard it move as i connected it. Used 12v tester to see if the other one was alive and it wasnt even with on off of car. Havent tried it after a drive yet but will this arvo.
Also my float level (at least on the front) is sitting mid way. If they are both like this, is it an indication that the needle seat operation is good?

Fuel will spill out of the vent if it is open either by the solenoid or by having been removed.
The solenoid is an electromagnet. It screws into the outter part of the carb and has the wire hangin' off it. It is essentially an electromagnetic sleeve for a steel piston that has a plastic plunger on the end of it. It is also spring loaded with a very light spring. When there's no juice, the spring pushes the steel piston outward, which pushes the plastic plunger up against the carb vent, bliocking it off. When you turn the key, 12V+ is added to the solenoid (12V- being the grounded carb) and the magnet sucks the piston inward and holds it there, keeping the vent open.
It's said to be an emissions thing, but in reality, Nikki or Mazda just didn't want cars blowing up when started due to an accumulation of fuel vapors under the hood in the hot Nevada sun when the coils arced against the frame like they love to do.
So there you have it. Again. The story of the float bowl vent solenoid. Wooohooo.
Not much can **** up a carb so well and have you chasing your tail in circles and be solved so easily as an unplugged FBVS.

Well, I gave it a 12v power source and I heard the mechanism inside work... so I started the car and took it for a spin.
The big bog I was feeling for almost a full second when I mashed the pedal is GONE..!!! The dripping fuel after a nice pull only happened once during a 3hr romp and it went away easily by reving a little. I am very happy...!!!! I can definatly live with that for now to get some driving time. STERLING & FBII... THANK YOU for the advice..!!!

I had this problem and figured out the float needles just weren't seating. I took off the fuel supply hose at the carb and sprayed carb cleaner in the carb opening till it filled up. Let it sit a couple minutes, reconnected the hose and started her up. After a few tries of this, the problem cleared right up.

I don't think FBII uses a battery at all. I've heard that he has to push start his car everymorning to get it started (j/k).
Not sure why your's would die when his doesn't, but you could just run a wire to the coil power and should be fine.
