Newbe question - '85 GSL-SE rear diff.

Good evening RX-7 owners. This is my first post to this site, and my first attempt at a more major project with my 1984 GS. I am swapping in a 84 GSL-SE suspession from my GSL-SE parts car. Things are going OK, but I was having trouble pulling the rear discs off the diff. First, do they come off the axle shaft? And if so, they might be rusted on, any clues as to how to break it loose? They are the vented rear discs.

Thanks

try hitting around the center of the rotor with a hammer, probably just frozen on there from sitting.

So the center of the rotor is actually the hub of the axle shaft?

The bolts that hold the disc on can be stubborn.Sometimes they will strip if you dont use an impact driver(hand held, not air powered)They are the little phillips head screws, flush on the mounting flange of the disc.
Once they are off, just find a small metric hex head bolt the same size as those screws(they are VERY common size) and run them into the other small holes on the disc. Those holes are threaded on the disc and will allow you to tighten up the bolts and then pop off the disc from the axle flange.

Youll see the holes. If the two small phillips head screws are at 12 and 6 o'clock positions, then the threaded holes for removing the discs will be at 9 and 3 o'clock.

Steve84GS TII, thanks for the tip, I tried last night and they popped off in 30 sec. This list is a pretty good tool.
