ive heard good things about the kumhos ecsta street performance tires. they are only $80 or so, but like you said, they dont have them for 14s

What about Michelin Pilots?

My shop is a Michelin delareand endorses them heavily. Having never had a set on any car I've ever owned or driven, I can't say that I know how good they are.

Having mounted them and done seveal flat repairs on them, I know they are a stiff composition with thick sidewalls and a smooth tread.

Tire rack has Pilot XGT H4 in 14 inch for $90 a pop. That seems a little steep for 14 inch tires.

Hey Pele,
Which Michelin Pilots do you speak of? I found 10 different tires called Pilots at the tire rack web site.

205/60R14 tires make the speedo dead on accurate, at least on my GSL-SE. Don't know if that'a a big concern of yours or not.
although with that wide of a tire on my rims i've had problems with center tire wear, lower the pressure and it feels a little squishy.

That makes sense, as that is the stock size for the -SE.

Depends on the application. I have some Yokohama Aegis LS4s on my 85 that I drive daily. Superior handling and excellent traction all year round. Good buy and rated #1 in Consumer Reports.

REVHED unfortunately Yokohama have dropped the 509s and replaced it with 539 without the 205.60.14 size
.
I went all over Adelaide last week looking for a pair but had to settle for 195.60.14s to get home. Still do not now what to do in the long run but might have to switch brands

I found a set of riken 15" at the junkyard on a turbo 626 and picked em up for a song.I am going to try the Khumos, at $275 to the door they seem like the best deal out there. I am still looking for a set of yokohamas though. I guess I need autocross rubber for my 14's now

UGH.. my mistake... 225-60R14's make the speedo accurate....
motor trend (or someone like that) mentioned in a review that the speedo was optimistic, so the 225 corrects for that with a 1" larger height

Is it me? I thought the 225-60R14 means

225 - tire width in Millimeters
60 - profile size (distince between rim and tire contact patch
R - Radial
14 - Size of the Rim

So why would 22560R14 make Any difference to a Speedo, when 20560R14 should have the same circumferance or diameter around.

Its the same tire, just 10 MM wider.

Again, I COULD be wrong, so please enlighten me. Thanks.

60 is a percentage, in the case you mention it's 60% of 225mm so the tire height is a bit taller. If it were 205/60 it would be a little shorter.

I got a set of Fisk (made by BF Goodrich) Phantom HRX directional tires 205 60 14 to fit the factory rims. Only $46.00 each and are great in the rain. Got them at Discount tire and had them siped for an extra $7.00 a piece.

Phantom HRX
Delivers Standout Response

$46.00 each
P205/60R-14 88H

Treadwear: 400
Traction: A
Temperature: A

The Phantom HRX delivers standout grip and response though the most demanding driving conditions. The new, directional aggressive tread pattern is exceptional on wet pavement.

The tire rack, www.tirerack.com, is where I got the prices and (lack of) selection, also www.discounttiredirect.com has comparable prices and more wharehouses.

Ok I know this is a late reply but.

I also have the SH30s. I find they are very good in the dry weather but not in the wet weather. Still it's tough here to find a good selection of 205/60R14s.

205/60-14?

Hands down my choice would be the new Yoko AVS ES100's...

$71 each at tirerack and they stick like a MF.... Treadwear of 280, so take that as you wish....

I had the eagle hp's on my car.
I was very impressed with the grip, wet/cold performance was good also.
Unfourtunately they only lasted about 12k miles.
I told my dad they were soft tires to begin with, he said bullsh*t it hasnt even been a year you had better make those last till your Christmas.
Maybe i drive too hard.

I got a set of the Sumitomo HTR 200 this past Spring. I like them so far, but have only put a couple thousand miles on them. Cheap, very sticky in the dry, no problems with rain either.

Yes, yes, and yes.

If you're broke, Sumitomo HTR200.

I was in your exact situation a few months ago. I bought some summitomo HTR 200s from tirerack.com. $40 or so a piece. Not bad, a little side wall flex that takes getting used to if you make a really sudden transition (ie jerk the wheel). Seem to stick really well. Lots of tread depth on them. Next time I may try the yokohoma's. The guy at tire rack said they get a lot of good reviews for the summitomo's. I guess some side wall flex is gonna happen with a 60 series tire. Also looked at the dunlop spa2 but I live in SoCal so there is no snow. It is hard to find a 205/60HR14. Most dealers said "what?".
