Well there are a couple ways to find out what kind of motor is in it. If its an 84 or 85 GSL-SE, it will have a 13B engine in it. If it is anything else, it will have a 12A engine in it. All this depending of course on if anyone has swapped motors or anything like that. The best way to know, is to open your hood an look . Stand on the drivers side of the car and look down to the left of the oil filter, and above the spark plugs on the top of the engine (someone have a pic?). It will say either 12A or 13B right on top Its in rather large print and I believe it even says Mazda on there too . Anyway, good luck with the car, and I hope the paint comes out good! Also, add-ons are a common thing amog these cars. Some of the more common ones are intake, exhaust, fuel pump, regulator, after-market carbs, etc. Modifications are also common. Such as porting (street-port, bridge-port, etc.) which is the process of enlarging the intake and/or exhaust ports on the rotor housings (requires that you disassemble your engine and rebuild). Some other stuff might be carb mods like porting the venturies and crap (dont know much about that though). You can search for adding horsepower, or porting, or anything that might be along the lines of tricking out your little engine, and im sure youll come up with some good info. Also, I second Mike-P-28, were all here to help eachother, just be sure to have fun!
