new rotory owner NEED HELP!
Hello, bout to pick up my first rotory car here sunday. I NEED HELP! the car has a rough idle, still carburated. the engine runs but under the hood is a train wreck.
the car is an 85. posi rear end. suspension seems aftermarket as its very stiff. I have never owned one of these before. does anyone know where the vacuum line to the brake booster connects on the manifold? If anyone in GA has owned one of these before I could appreciate a hand, would be willing to pay gas food and maybe some pocket cash if you can show me how to rerun all the vacuum lines and what not and get the car back to facory under the hood.
this is the car.

I can help with the vaccum line to the brake booster. When looking at the engine from the passenger side, it should connect to the left side of the manifold. If you are having trouble finding it, find the line leaving the brake booster and follow it along the firewall and you should see where it goes. The old hoses keep thier shape very well (which is not always a good thing). As for the rest of the vaccuum lines, good luck with those. I think there is a diagram under the hood which tells where all the lines go, but I ripped out the rat's nest (mass amounts of connectors and vaccuum lines on the top of the engine) so i have no idea where they all go and I don't know if you have emissions laws in GA.
I was just like you about 6 months ago and by reading threads and doing some searching in the FAQs I've learned alot. Good Luck!

Patience padiwan, I'm still thinking.
The rubber hose above the booster goes to a metal pipe that runs across the firewall, drops down, turns forward and connects to the intake manifold with another rubber hose.
Car looks decent, you have a lot of cleaning ahead of you. with the air cleaner off, the engine will not idle properly. there is one hose that connects to it and if the hose is off or not plugged, it makes a huge vacuum leak.
In the FAQ sticky at the top of the forum, there is a link to download the 85 FSM, along with a good deal of beginner and intermediate info on the 1st gens. Go forth an learn new one.
Welcome to the dark side.

carb- tune
run..check for vacuum leaks...check vac. line connections for looseness ,&cracks...check ignition timing after warm up...turn 45 degree screw at base of carb, drivers side,in till it just stops, then back out 3/4 of a turn, then adjust throttle stop screw to set idle RPM.make sure all screws on top of carb are tight...check sight glass at side of both float bowls...see if fuel level is at the middle of sight glass..clean off grime with carb cleaner spray..check tighten carb to manifold nuts&manifold to engine bolts also listen clostly to air flow into carb...should be smooth ..no girgling. if girgling..carb usually needs a rebuild...good luck. ]

ok well the problem with the car is this, its been severaly fucked with. LOL. the line for the brake booster was removed from the manifold to the metal pipe, So I have NO IDEA where it is supposed to connect to on the top of the engine. the rats nest is no where to be seen, the only thing on the top of the engine is the alt. emissions, ac, powersteering, and basicly every system on the car short of fuel spark and air has been removed. The car is even missing the exh from the first cat back! on the exh manifold I see a giant open hole where it looks like something once went. as a first time rotory owner, I know this is a very harsh car to work with.
so any pointers?

look under a plastic sheild thingy at the back of the intake mani for a curvy metal pipe thing i think its a 5/8 in. hose that connects to it. if its disconnected it may very well be the main cause of your vac leaks
if you truly love your car it will turn into a money pit no matter how good of condition it is in.
get ready to refinance your house or sell your wife, lol
