New to Mazda
Hey guys Im Brett. Im 18 and live in Southern oregon. Just bought a 1980 rx-7 with bigger engine swap, not sure what engine it is . Anyway, I have to redo the electrical because of the swap which is no problem for me, Even though Im new to rotary :P. Is there a place to get replacement seats? Both seats are torn and such, but I would like to restore them and if at all possible buy the same exact one thanks!!!

Hey Brett. Welcome to the forum. Before anything else check out the faq page and look at the archives. Also get used to the search button. Post some pics of the car when you can. I think www.racingbeat.com sells uphostery kits. God bless

Welcome to the Darkside. For wiring diagrams, FSMs and carb manuals, the online link is in my sig line.
I certainly hope 'bigger engine swap' doesn't mean a boinger. The 80 came out with a 12A, the bigger rotary is a 13B in several different variations. The engine size is cast into the housings on the top driver's side of the block.

There should be a thread that says, "If you are new, read the stickies. Also if you are new, if Trochoid doesn't have your answers, you're fucked."
Anyway, take a few pictures of the engine bay. I want to know what kind of "bigger engine swap" it truly is. I'm hoping to see a 13b TII swap. That would be a nice little find.
Also, on top of posting pictures, how much did you pay for the car?
Congratulations on the buy, and I hope she is as much fun for you as most of our sevens have been for us.

Wow, sweet. Welcome to the rest of your life! You will find that first gen owners are probably the proudest of their cars, more than the second or third gen owners. We usually have to do more to our cars. So, you are a litte more proud.

Here i found half of the seats lol. I don't know why you would only sell half of a seat but oh well.

Well the car is an 80, but the engine is out of an 85 I do believe. I wanna say GSL-SE 13b Or something close to that But im not 100% for sure. I can also turn the engine over by hand so im hoping no problems with getting it running

Now you definitely need to post pics. Is the engine carbed of FI. When you take the pics, post one of engine logo, just above the spark plugs, along with the intake system.

Sure I will. Im towing it down here tomorrow. Im not sure if I want to to try and just crank it over after getting the electrical hooked up. My friend josh is a rotary mechanic and said these engines are much easier to figure out then the Piston engines (which is all i know about). So ill check the oul, sparks and all that.. Im fairly sure it's carbed. Is there a place online that shows these cars resotred to factory? Dont get me wrong I love body kits, But I like to keep er' stock! except the engine of course, that needs to be almighty

To work on them if its YOU doing the work (DIY)...No its not. But if you get someone else to do the work for you then YES! There are alot of people out there that will not touch a rotary cause they don't know how to work on it properly and for that reason the people that THINK they can work on them charge a **** LOAD!!!
